Dear Editor: I would like to take the opportunity oppor-tunity at this time to write and thank you so very much for the splendid way and manner that you have taken In keeping me in contact con-tact with the new's and the folk's at home. I have received The Lehi Sun every week since I have been In the mission field. Even though In being be-ing transferred from city to city it has always reached me each week. And for this I can truly assure you that I am grateful to you fine people. peo-ple. I have truly enjoyed my missionary mission-ary work here In the Texas mission. The first eight months of my mission mis-sion was spent in the North Louisiana Louisi-ana district, laboring in the cities of Monroe, Shreveport, and Alexandria. Alex-andria. Ten months was spent In the South Texas district, working in the cities of Beaumont and Houston. Hous-ton. While In Houston I had the privilege of spending six months in the mission office as bookkeeper and commissarian, as well as M. I. A. and Priesthood supervisor of the mission. At the present time I am working in the city of Wichita Falls, here In Texas. The people in the southland are very receptive to the gospel truths. The progress of the L. D. S. church here being very good in the past five years. Many new buildings and chapels and a remarkable increase in-crease in the membership of the church has been the reward of the noble work done by the members and the missionaries here. After one has been in the southland south-land for some time, they can readily read-ily understand why the southern people are noted for their splendid hospitality. ? The missionaries laboring la-boring here have met with tremendous tre-mendous success, and they have taken every advantage and opportunity oppor-tunity and have truly spread the gospel truths. It has Indeed been a privilege and a pleasure and honor to be able to represent my family, my church, ward and stake in this great work. I am as always very grateful to my many friends and my family in giv ing me this splendid opportunity of coming into the mission field and spreading the gospel among these fine southern people. The southland is very fascinating with its large cities and many in teresting monuments of history. A person coming into the south for the first time is immediately aware of the true southern customs, espe cially the slow speaking voice of a true southerner. In traveling through the south I had the privilege and opportunity of visiting the quaint cities. In visiting vis-iting Natchez, Mississippi, one finds a typical southern city. It has its palatial southern mansions, and numerous southern plantations. In order to get to this fine city one must cross the historic Mississippi river, and in crossing, one can readily realize the scene of "The steamboat on the River." - In crossing cross-ing the Mississippi on one of those old fashioned steamboats a person's mind easily wanders back to the years when the steamboat was a novelty. . I have had the opportunity of visiting many Civil War ruinst for example the trenches where much of the fighting was done, and also many land marks that are so well connected with the memorable Civil War. While at Baton Rouge, Louisiana, I had the opportunity of visiting the Louisiana state capitol, viewing the many things that made Huey Long very popular among the people of the south. The rice fields, the negroes picking pick-ing cotton is a scene that Immediately Imme-diately takes a person's eye. For here In the south the negroes are plentiful and make their living by growing and picking cotton. Houston, with its! large metro politan area, and with its large waterfront Is one of the many tnings mat are of interest to a per. son. In Houston the L D. S. church has Just recently completed a beau tiful mission home and chapel and it is witnout a shadow of a doubt an asset to the city. Houston is noted for its rich oil output and boasts the claim of be ing the richest city In the south. This to my notion Is true, for one finds there many beautiful colonial mansions, southern plantations and the school system being of the best. Austin, Texas, the capitol city of Texas, Is a city that the Texan can be proud of. It represents years of hard work and has Indeed a very niswricai DacKground. As it has been said, a missionary or a person coming into the south cant neip but be amazed and even pleased with the fine progress and tne excellent southern hosoitalitv that Is extended to every southern state visiior. I can truly say that my missionary mission-ary work has been enjoyable and the many experiences that I have had. Carlquist, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Carlquist of Draper. Bishop E. N. Webb performed the ceremony in the presence of the immediate family. . Red candles and red and white carnations were used in the decorations decor-ations with the Christmas theme predominating. , The bride chose a gown of poudre blue with black accessories. A wedding supper followed the ceremony. The couple will make their home in Draper.
