War in Europe, portentous war clouds, and high political tension in other countries give increased im portance to the annual enrollment of membership in the American Red Cross. Any organization that can give added impetus to the advocacy of the principles of kindness and mercy in a world where hatred and animosity seem so dominant deserves de-serves the hearty support of all peace-loving citizens. The ideals of the Red Cross and the commendable service rendered during the intervening years since its organization have demonstrated its preeminence in the field of sue cor and rehabilitation among strick en humanity, We are pleased; therefore, there-fore, to express the hope that the annual enrollment for 1939 will exceed ex-ceed that of any previous year. The cost of individual membership is $1 a year, or as much more as a person wishes to give. , , . , It is true that the Church Welfare Wel-fare Plan, which the Latter-day Saints are now making effective, is demanding strenuous efforts from tens of thousands of willing workers, work-ers, yet notwithstanding this fact, we feel that the people of Utah and of the surrounding states should willingly cooperate and participate in the service of the Red Cross. Sincerely, . ; , , , Heber J. Grant, J. Reuben Clark, Jr. David O. McKay, The First Presidency.
