Out of these six signs two were selected. After studying these two signs for some time it was the judgement of the committee that one sign contained contain-ed the back ground, while the other contained the ideas of what Lehi offer. So it was a unanimous vote of the committee that the Lions Club split the prize and award it to Miss Rowena Christensen and Miss Audrey Davis. The Lions Club will combine the ideas of the two signs into one, which will be on display at the State Street Drug Thursday, as it will appear on the sign when it is erected. It is the desire of the ocmmittee to give honorary mention to the follow- ing, who submitted very good signs June Larsen, Billie Goodman, Neldon Hanson and Karl Roberts. The committee was of an unanim ous opinion that the students as a whole submitted some very go'od signs and ideas. By Daisy Christensen. Mette Marie Jorgensen Christensen Christen-sen was born April 20, 1849, at Ved-dum, Ved-dum, Denmark, where she spent the first part of her childhood days. After being baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, she emigrated to Utah with her parents in 1862. The trip to Utah was long and tiresome for it took them six weeks to cross the ocean in a sailing vessel and equally as long to cross the plains with a company of saints who drove oxen, although she walked almost every step of the way, so as to allow others to ride, whom she thought les3 able walk. She had her 13th birthday while on the plains. After reaching Utah her parents located in Enhraim. where she later met and married Niels Christian Christiansen on August 19, 1873. In the all of 1874 they moved to Lehi. Here they suffered the hardships hard-ships known only to the early brave sturdy pioners. 'She was the mother of eight children, child-ren, five boys and three girls, six of whom have preceded her to the Great Beyond. Those remaining are Alexander . Christensen of . American Fork and Louis Christensen of Lehi, seven grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. great-grandchild. She lived a quiet life, scarcely ever leaving her home. This was due to the loss of her children and ill health. She passed peacefully away at her home, after long years of suffering, Mnvptribfir 17. 1927. at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 27 days with full hopes of a glorious resurrection. To know her was to love her, for she was constantly thinking of others. She was a most faithful wife and mother. Her character is very well told in the following lines THE LITTLE WOMAN By Edgar A. Guest. The little woman, to her bow And doff my hat as I pass hereby; I reverence the furrows that mark her brow And the sparkling love-light in her eye. The little woman who stays at "home And makes no bid for the world's applause; Who never sighs for a chance to roam. But toils all day in a grander cause. The little woman who c?ems so weak, Yet bears her burdens day by day; And no one has ever heard her speak In a bitter or loud complaining way. She sings a snatch of a merry song, As she toils in her home from morn til night Her work is hard and the hours are lonS . . But the little woman's heart Is light A slave to love is that woman small. And her burdens heavier yearly grow; But somehow she seems to bear them all As the deep'ning lines in her white cheeks show. Her children all have a mother's care, Her home the touch of a good wife knows No burden's too heavy for her to bear, But, patiently doing her best, she goes. The little woman, may God be kind To her where'er she dwells today, The lttie woman who seems to find Her joy in toiling along life's way. May God bring peace to her work-worn work-worn breast And Joy to her motber-heart at last; May love be hers when its time to rest And the roughest part of the road is passed. V The little woman how oft It seems God chose her for the mother's - ' Part, . And many a grown-up sits and dreams To-day of her with an aching heart. For he knows well how she toiled . for him And he sees it noy that it is too ; late; . And often his eyes with tears grow dim For"; the. little woman whose strength was great o Thanksgiving Program .Wednesday A special Thanksgiving program given Wednesday (this morning) at 11 o'clock in the hiyh school auditorium under tthe direction of A.
