He is f,1 rapidly on the mend, and will soon be ngain at his desk. The many friends of Mrs. M. C. Yates, who has been dangerously ill with pneumonia pneu-monia at the Miners Hospital, will be pleased to learn the lady is much better at this writing, and her complete re covery is assured. Gardiner, with the office of Collector of Internal Revenue, Salt Lake City, will be at the New Park Hotel today and tomorrow, Friday, to assist anyone who desires aid In . filling out income tax returns. The sympathy of friends goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum Winterton, of this city, in the death of their two week's old baby, which died at their home last Sunday. Funeral services were held Tues day at the Geo. M. Archer Mortuary chapel. The First Ward L. D. S. church was filled with friends and admirers of Mrs. George F. Murray last Sunday evening, for whom a special program was given in her honor, because of her long and faithful service as a church worker. The popular lady was showered with congratulations con-gratulations and well wishes. It was a happy gathering. The many friends of our popular and! long time citizen, R. W. Macdonald, will De pieasea to learn that he was dis charged from the local hospital Monday last after a four weeks sickness follow ing an operation for hernia. He will soon be back to normal and again shak ing nanas with friends In his usual genial manner. Murphy,, of the President's Presi-dent's Birthday Ball committee reports a total of $185.80 received from The dance, with $98.68 expenditures, leaving a balance of $87.12 to be sent to the national treasurer. Miss Thelma Jorgen-son Jorgen-son was the winner of the birthday cake given away after the dance. Mr. Murphy desires to thank his committees for the excellent service rendered by them. At the Holy Cross hospital, Salt Lake City, on Saturday, January 29th, a handsome hand-some baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Bennett. The happy mother was formerly Miss Teresa Pettit, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Pettit, of this city. It is the first child, and joy is uncon-fined uncon-fined at its arrival, not only by the proud parents, but also by Grandma and Grandpa Pettit their first grandchild. Many happy returns of the day, folks. Word was received here Wednesday that Jack James, a former well known young man of this city, had died in San Francisco, California, following a short illness. Mr. James left his home In Salt Lake for a vacation in California and Colorado, when he was stricken. Deceased De-ceased is survived by a daughter, his mother, Mrs. Ed James and four broth ers, Charles, Eddie. Rav and Elmer. The body will be brought here Saturday or Sunday, for burial in the City cemetery. ceme-tery. Mrs. Dave Scott received a letter last Saturday from the family of the late John Deason, most of them making their home In Crockett, California, giv ing the sad intelligence that their mother, Mrs. M. Deason. had passed on following a paralytic stroke. Funeral services ser-vices were held the first of the week at Oakland, California. Mr. and Mrs. John Deason were well known and highly es teemed citizens of this community for many years Mr. Deason being one of the first operators of the Crescent tramway tram-way in the early days, and employed by mining companies of this city. Mrs. Deason was prominent in church and social affairs and beloved because of her kindliness and splendid Christian character. char-acter. The family left Park City In 1915, but still have many staunch friends and admirers In our city. Deceased is survived sur-vived by five sons, Hilary, Leo, John, George and Paull Deason.
