The Celtic American Society (CAS) is a group of young people who delight in sharing their Celtic heritage through music and song. "We chose the name Celtic American Society because each of us has roots in some Celtic country," coun-try," said Richard Stubbs, percussionist and vocalist. vocal-ist. The CAS began about two years ago at Mountain Moun-tain View High. School. Band director John Bowman Bow-man brought a bodhran, a Celtic drum (the d and the h are silent), spoons, and a tin whistle iu school. These unique instruments instru-ments piqued the interest of several students who performed in the symphonic sym-phonic band. Tara Beard and Kristi Peterson began jamming on the Celtic instruments during lunch periods. They were joined by Richard and the trio began to prepare a number num-ber for the school talent show. Violinist Caitlin Talbot, joined the group and the group performed "The Blarney Pilgrim" for the talent show. "It turned out to be a great success," said Richard. Band director John Bowman encouraged the students to learn more Celtic music and the group performed selections selec-tions from "River Dance" at the school's end of year concert. Jeralyn Merrill of the Pleasant Grove Arts Commission Com-mission heard the students stu-dents and invited them to perform at the Concert in the Park. Sunday's concert will be the group's public full-length full-length concert debut. The quartet became a quintet with the addition of Craig Wilson, 18, on bass. The event is free to the public and the audience is asked to bring blankets and lawn chairs in order to enjoy an evening of lively and beautiful instrument, at 7:30 7 of the p, H son,7: RecreatJf.ip corner 3 J: 100 East. 0 3i W -Heets, "We chosei Americano, 4 Celtic count 2 bis re dlurc He OK Gro Bar 1952 Their solemi UW- o PASSIONS) grad .and vocalist Grove ' where sports He Kalyn Secretan The Jacobs Senior Center Cen-ter had a flutter of excitement excite-ment last week when Thelma Thel-ma Price of Lindon brought a triple sunflower in a vase.
