Show New Utah - Thursday, January 1, 2004 - Page 8 Obituary Steven Travis Allan Lehi museum patch is created for Scouts LC? IIIUQ&UUI t0 stick with a simple design won'tsoe, Steven Travis Allan, 31, of Provo, Utah, passed away December 26, 2003. Travis was born March 9, 1972, to Donna Coates and Steven Allan. Travis was born and raised in Provo, and attended Tim-panogos Tim-panogos Elementary, Dixon Jr. High, and Provo High School. Travis graduated from Provo High School in 1990. He played on the PHS football team, and was an All Region Wrestler for PHS. He is survived by bis parents, par-ents, Donna Coates (Fred) Paskett, Steven . Gerald (Diane) Allan; two sisters, and one brother: Kimberli (Jeff) Hawkins, Kerri Allan, Wade Allan; two nieces and one nephew: Kaitlyn Hawkins, Brecka Hawkins, and Taylor Allan; his grandmother, grand-mother, Aleda Coates; and his prized hunting dog, Doc (Doc Holiday). Travis was an avid, self-taught self-taught outdoorsman. He loved hiking, flyfishing, camping, and hunting with Doc. He also played one mean air guitar. Travis tied his own fishing fish-ing flies, and was very proud of his craftsmanship on his Sow Bug. He knew one day he would catch Walter, Wal-ter, the one that got away. Well try and catch Walter for you, Travy. His love for the mountains moun-tains took him from one heaven to another. He spent many hours in a tree stand looking for the perfect elk. He was able to call in the elk using just his voice. Travis was most comfortable comfort-able and at peace when he was in the outdoors, especially espe-cially when he was on Mount Loafer and in Packard Canyon. Travis was welcomed home by his Grandpa Coates. We know they are boxing together, right now! Although Travis always felt small in stature, he was a spiritual giant, and larger than life to his family. We love you, Trav! You are always in our hearts. Hey Trav . . . "Grab your MacDaddy and lets fish on." A viewing will be held Tuesday, December 30th, from 6-8 p.m., at Berg Mortuary Mor-tuary in Provo, 185 E. Center Cen-ter Street. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 31st, at 11 a.m., at the Grandview South 17th Ward Chapel, 1122 Grand Avenue, Provo. There will also be a viewing an hour prior to the funeral services. Interment, Provo City Cemetery. Cub Scouts and Scouts can now earn a patch by visiting vis-iting the John Hutchings Museum of Natural History in Lehi. The Hutchings Museum Patch is the brainchild of Lehi city manager, Ed Collins, an ardent supporter of the museum. Reflecting on the extensive exten-sive historical objects displayed dis-played there, Collins decided there should be a Scout patch for the museum. He took his idea to Dean Bolles, director of the museum, and Peter Brooks and together the three created a patch and got it approved and registered reg-istered with the Boy Scouts of America. To earn the patch, Scouts must visit the museum and attend a presentation. "We have six rooms, and I've concocted three questions ques-tions for each room that they have to be able to answer," said Bolles. The Scouts are given a sheet with the questions at the beginning of the tour and each question will be covered in the presentation. "I'm not expecting them to come up with or dream up these answers on their own, said Bolles. "During the presentation, whatever else I do, I will address myself to those questions." The presentation takes Scouts through the museum's muse-um's fossil, rock and mineral, jail, bird, pioneer, and Indian rooms. Questions center on items found in each room and their histories. The museum patch took six months from original idea to creation of the patch itself. Difficulties settling on a patch design was the major reason cited for the delay. Collins struggled with the patch design before turning it over to Bolles who decided Call 756-7669 to place a classified ad " A A A A wm i- r r r "SPLENDIDLY Box Office Magazine CHARMING Scoff Foundas, Variety --l a , - r.- YV f.' 1 mi if -V F LOVE HAS MET ITS MATCH. Peter Brooks was then assigned to get the patch and questions approved by the Boy Scouts of America. "Peter Brooks was the go between between us and the Scouts," said Bolles. "And they reviewed our questions and said they were adequate." Lehi City funded the patch and ordered 1,000 patches initially for the museum, allowing Bolles and Collins to change the color and design in the future.
