Show The Grove Theatre will be looking for boos and cheers ! - i- - l.HM Photo by Michael McRae Jon Schmidt will perform in concert for Strawberry Days on June 17. John Schmidt to present concert Tuesday evening By Kalyn Secretan The Strawberry Days committee com-mittee is proud to announce that Jon Schmidt will be in I'leasant Grove for the Strawberry Days concert on Tuesday, June 17, on the soccer field just east of the swimming pool at 7 p.m.. His amazing show appeals to everyone and he has a refreshingly unique style that is difficult to pin down. Just as the audience thinks it has a reflective New Age pianist, he'll do a back flip off the piano bench, throw himself under the keyboard and play ragtime with his hands crossed. They may also see him playing the piano with his feet, playing upside down or on top of the piano. His music has elements of Beethoven or Chopin, but while performing per-forming he will suddenly turn into a Jerry Lee Lewis. I lis style also makes one think of Billy Joel or Victor Vic-tor Borge. Jon was born to German immigrants immi-grants who raised him on the music of the masters, he was playing Mozart Sonatas and composing his own music by age 11. He was a well-rounded well-rounded young man - a captain of the football team, the class clown and the kid at school that got along with everyone. Well-rounded also describes the music of his albums, "August End," "Walk in the Woods," "A Day in the Sunset," "Jon Schmidt Christmas," and "To the Summit." He combines classical and the new age sensibilities sensibili-ties with pop-style. His "A Jon Schmidt Christmas," has fast become a successful yearly Christmas tradition in Salt Lake. His show appeals to many, crossing generations, and he has performed all over the country. Schmidt is quick to acknowledge that his best inspiration comes from the special relationships in his life, including those with his wife, Michelle, his children and God. Strawberry Days celebrants won't miss a chance to see Schmidt in action as a kickoff activity to the Strawberry Days celebration. Those attending will want to bring lawn chairs or blankets and spend an evening with a master of music.
