On the road against Springville, the Vikings ran away with a 78-53 thrashing thrash-ing of a young Red Devils team. Scoring was difficult early against Provo. The Bulldogs did an excellent job shutting down the Pleasant Grove passing Janes, which disrupted the Viking motion offense. Colt Sampson cemented his MVP status early and often as he led the Vikings with four, first quarter points. He continued the scoring in the second quarter as he added five more points to his total. Despite Sampson's consistence con-sistence in the paint, Pleasant Grove was unable to cut into the slim three point Provo advantage as the two teams headed to the locker rooms at the half. The second half was Pleasant Grove's opportunity opportuni-ty to showcase the defense. While the offense scored 14 points in the quarter, the defense limited Provo to its lowest point total for a quarter this season. Anderson continued his aggressive scoring mentality mentali-ty in the fourth quarter as he scored 7 more points to pace the Vikings. Meanwhile the Bulldogs had seemingly figured out the Pleasant Grove defense but didn't have enough time to overcome the nine point deficit that the Vikings had built. Sampson and Anderson led the Pleasant Grove scoring scor-ing statistics with 19 and 14 points respectively. No other Vikings made their way into double figures. When Colt Sampson remains in the game, the Vikings win. Sampson finished fin-ished the game with four fouls, only one coming in the final period. Friday night at Springville, the Vikings knew that they would have a pretty easy game if they could just survive the opening open-ing four or five minutes. Historically the Red Devils have ' demolished the Vikings in the Devils gymnasium. gym-nasium. Not only did Pleasant Grove survive the opening minutes against Springville, they set the tone themselves. Three point baskets from Gabe Miles and Cameron Patch helped the Vikings build an early 14-8 lead. Balanced scoring saw seven Vikings get on the scoreboard in just the first quarter. By the beginning of the second quarter, it was obvious obvi-ous that Springville didn't have enough depth or size to keep up with Pleasant Grove. The Vikings increased their lead to 15 after one half of play. Cameron Patch had an impressive first half as he scored 13 points to pace the Vikings. The second half was an opportunity for coach Craig McAffee to play his bench. Taking advantage of the playing time, Derek Hoke poured in 11 points, all in the third quarter. Hoke was named the player of the game as the senior center scored a career high against the Devils. The entire fourth quarter was devoted to the playing time of junior and sophomore sopho-more players. With Pleasant Grove holding a 58-29 lead heading into the final quarter, the entire Viking bench saw plenty of action. Cameron Patch finished the night with a team high l3 points followed by Hoke. Seth Iorg also had a nice eight point outing from the shooting guard position. Now the Vikings attention atten-tion turns to rematches. Friday night the road trip continues for the Vikings as they again travel south, this time to Spanish Fork. The Dons have been down again this season but always play tough at home. Game time is set for 7 p.m. The team will be home on Tuesday for a second meeting meet-ing with American Fork. EAS MYOPLEX 42 Pack Jl9Salef '.0 (0 Reg. $99.95 All Flavors. Must present coupon.
