Houle said his team defense focused in on Orem's Tiffany Peterson. The Orem forward was averaging 16.9 points per game but the Bruin defense held her to 10 points on four-of-19 shooting. "We wanted to control her and have her not go off for 30 points," Houle said. The Bruins drained 14 three-pointers in the game, just two short of their own state record set last year against Orem. Heather Hansen had six, Hollie two, Mallary Gillespie two, Amy Mack three and Chelsea Cardon one. Orem did not hit a shot beyond the arc in 10 attempts. The win wraps up Mountain View's ninth consecutive con-secutive region title. They finish the regular season at Timpanogos. "It's always an honor to win the region. People think it gets old but it doesn't," Houle said. "The next step is to do our best at state." Last time the two teams met, the Bruins had a big second quarter. The script was about the same but the roles were reversed as Orem jumped all over Mountain View with a 19-9 second period. The surge was led by Lincoln Reid. He blocked a shot, stole the ball and went up for a one-handed dunk to electrify the Orem fans and his own teammates. Tom Frederickson came off the bench in the quarter to add to the spark. He hit a three-pointer and followed it with another basket as he scored five of his eight points in the second. "Tom did a terrific job coming off the bench for us," Conner said. Conner also said the last time the two teams met it was Mountain View's guards, Nate Allman and John Evans, who hurt the Tigers. The two combined for 20 points in the previous game but were held to only eight this time around. "We felt our guards could handle theirs. We did a much better job of pressuring pressur-ing the ball," he said. The Bruins clawed their way back into the game and Danny Johnson hit a three with 38 seconds remaining to cut their deficit to six. Two possessions later, Chad Larsen made a basket in the lane to cut it to four with 25.9 left to play. Then it came down to Orem free throw shooting. Brooks Christiansen and Jonny Nielsen combined in making four-of-six from the line down the stretch to hold for the win. Johnson led all scorers with 18 but none of his teammates reached double-figures. double-figures. Orem improves to 2-4 in region play. Combined with a Pleasant Grove loss to Timpanogos, the Tigers, Vikings and Bruins all have two region wins but Mountain View has one less loss at 2-3. Orem finishes against Lone Peak and Timpanogos, both at home. "We've got to win them both," Conner said. "That third spot is up for grabs right now and we've got to do our part."
