Students at Greenwood Elementary School found that out at the close of s IkxjI before Christmas break. They had a jar set up in the sch(X)l to collect money for students who are less fortunate. for-tunate. Pocket change sent from their homes and donated by the students added up to more than $250. "They were pretty excited about that," said Peggy Feld, who coordinated coordi-nated the effort for the school. Members of the student council helped. One was the student president Hunter Pierce. "We have done it before," he said. "It goes to people who need money for food and shelter." The vice president of the student council, Zac Jacklin, agreed. "Mostly I think it is going for people who are homeless so they can help them," he said. "It is to help them get food and services through the winter." The students set a goal of filling the glass jug with change, but did not have a dollar amount in mind. Thy came close to their goal. Classes would take turns during the day, going to the office to make their donations. Zac said he heard from some students who wished they could participate. par-ticipate. "Some kids said they really would like to help," he said. "Some people said they are kind of sorry because they don't have any coins to put in the jar."
