If ; Emily Marlowe Christmas is such a memorable memo-rable time of the year, I have enjoyed all of your Christmas memories and recipes that you have sent in Let this season be another sea son wnere - XJ memories are made in your home and in your Cookin' Place. May love surround sur-round you in the New Year. This week's memory and recipes come from Cindy, a reader in American Fork. Thank you Cindy for letting us peek into your childhood and into your heart. Cindy writes: "It all started when 1 was baby Jesus in a play. My Mom was Mary and my Dad was Joseph. I was 2 months old. So from that time on I guess I was supposed to always love Christmas. All my Christmases growing up were the best. My Mom and Dad always made it so special. We would have lots of good food, parties and fun times. I would wake up Christmas Christ-mas morning and be so excited to see that Santa had brought me just what I had asked for. Then would come the big breakfast with homemade waffles, waf-fles, pancakes, bacon, eggs, yummy homemade syrup and fresh jam. Then later in the day, we would have turkey, ham and anything else that you could think of. My mom was the best cook we would eat for days. Homemade candy, cookies and treats galore! I had lots of aunts, uncles and cousins that would come to our Momma's Divinity Beat two egg whites until stiff and set aside. Cook until the thermometer reaches 240 degrees (this temperature has to be exact): 2-12 cups sugar 12 cup light corn syrup 23cupwater Slowly pour 13 of the syrup over the egg whites Beat well with the beater (not too much, you don't want it to set up too quickly) Cook the rest of the remaining syrup until the thermometer reaches 256 degrees (this temperature has to be exact) Pour slowly into the first mixture Add: Pinch of salt 1 tsp vanilla , Stir well by hand ' Add nuts, if desired Scoop by spoonful on waxed paper, and let set up house. And of course we made the rounds to see all of them and more food. "I come from a family of fabulous cooks. Both my Mom's family and Dad's family fam-ily were all such good cooks. My Dad is from California so would head there for the Rose ball parade and of course more good food. I can still smell my Great -Grandma's house. She cooked from sun up to sun down everyday. Grandma always wore an apron. I never remember her not having one on. She could of opened a bakery, her cooking cook-ing was that good. "With my Love for Christ mas and Cooking I have made many memories with my children. chil-dren. Out of my 6 kids they all do enjoy Christmas but I do have a son that enjoys it as much as his mother. I have always said I wish we could forget about all the commercial commer-cial side of Christmas and just focus on the true meaning of Christmas. Enjoy the Christmas Christ-mas lights, nativity, parties and good food. "I love to have parties. When you come to my party you never have to bring anything, any-thing, just a good appetite. I really enjoy cooking all the food and letting everybody enjoy en-joy the party. When October comes around, I start thinking about what I will be cooking for the holidays. We do have some favorites. Homemade waffles, syrup, Chex mix, fudge, peanut butter cups, pickle roll ups, dips, cheese ball, and of course homemade rolls just to name a few. Homemade rolls are like the main course for our family we have to have them with every dinner meal. My kids always al-ways knew there would home-. made rolls with each meal "Three years ago I decided I always wanted my kids to remember just how much I loved Christmas so I come up with the idea of giving each of them a Christmas picture and writing on the back of the picture, telling them to always remember how much I love Christmas. I give them their picture at Thanksgiving dinner and they are always so excited. It is fun for me to go their homes and see the pictures displayed. I know I will always be a part of their Christmas. "So, to my Mom and Dad thank you for making Christmas Christ-mas my very favorite time of the year, without you making mak-ing such fabulous memories for me, I would not have been able to pass it on to my children. Merry Christmas, I Love You Mom and Dad. "I would like to share with you my mom's divinity recipe. Childhood would not have been the same without it!"
