Show Thursday, November 20, 2008 Puppy is Tug Gettling I e ain't perfect and he doesn t much care. But don't let that fool ya, his heart is true and his desire is pure, it's just that his attention span is a mite too short. Quick with a lick, full of true grit and mischievous to the core, but that doesn't make for a bad combination. Sure, he'll steal from you every chance he gets. Turn your back and your dinner plate will be a touch lighter. Missing your boots well, you know where you'll find 'em. They'll be out there under the porch and a little worse for wear but that's a small price to pay. His days are spent in the mud and the rain with foxtails and briars, and he'll bring it all home with him, scrambling through the house with nary a care. Things better left alone are his daily companions and he is quick to share them with you. Your house will take a toll. Between the mud tracks and "accidents" you'll keep busy cleaning and cursing. Chewin's a chore that he relishes with delight. Couches and dress britches, boots and bed stuff, the morning news and bones and even barbed wire but only once. Your nerves may get frazzled a bit like the end of the extension cord he got a hold of. You'll chew him out for what he's chewed up. But you won't be overly harsh; mayhem is to be expected from the likes of him. He believes that diggin' is his duty and he never shirks it. Under the fence, in the garden, gar-den, even the potted inside-the-house plants all fall prey to his fore feet. Sometimes he unearths a treasure from beneath be-neath and re-deposits it under the bed where your slippers should be. Other times he re-buries, re-buries, and that's probably turn- 'fcf i'if REPLACEMENT WINDOWS & DOORS 33 No c -ST 1 lt ' " h L. r if r US UTAH TOLL FREE 888-201-7135 ST. During the daylight when the scary things have all gone astray he confidently marks his territory. He hits the fence line first, establishing a border, then turns to the possessions pos-sessions he considers "mine." The truck, mine. The dog house, mine. The front yard, the backyard, the barn, mine. The door mat, the hallway, the carpet and the couch, the living room, the kitchen table, down the stairs, up the stairs mine, mine, mine. Even the poor old mailman gets a mark. He is a friend to all from the hedgehog to the hound. No prejudice has yet tainted his view of things. He chases them all equally, the birds and the butterflies, squirrels and cats. And again that old faithful faith-ful mailman. When there's work to be done, he'll be found layin' in the sun, and when it's time to sleep he'll be howlin' down the wind. Yet there's no malice to be found in him. Scold him again and again, and he always al-ways comes back lickin', His days are long, filled with the essentials sleep, eat and play. He'll run afoul of the odoriferous critters and bring the aroma back home with him. He can bark, holler and carry on over a bumblebee bumble-bee and swallow a work glove whole. He's been known to trip up the best of us as he gets after our boot laces. And we'll do our darnedest not to set him squealing with a misplaced mis-placed step. He's been called a mutt and a hound; man's best friend and a cur; a flea bag, a mongrel, mon-grel, a pooch and a bow-wow. But puppy is his name.
