Despite a Coates kill giving Murray a 1-0 start, Porter guided American Fork ahead 4-1. The Cavemen led most of Game 3. Murray took a 16-15 lead at one pint, but American Ameri-can Fork still won the game 18-16. The Bonneville match opened with the Lakers and American Fork battling to a 2-2 draw. AHeide Hassel tip put the Lakers ahead 4-3. 4-3. Moea'i and Sachs guided American Fork in staying on the Lakers' heels early in the contest. Midway through the first game, Bonneville built up a 21-13 lead. Hardman, Sachs, and Porter pushed American Fork within 23-22, but hitting errors helped the Lakers get a 25-22 win. During the second game, Natalie Zitting built up a 9-3 9-3 lead for American Fork through Porter's hitting. Bonneville battled back to tie the game at 14 and set off a seesaw fight. Once the Cavemen Cave-men broke a 19-19 tie, Laws hits enabled them to win the game 25-20. Hits by Jamie Goulding and Porter created a 6-0 lead for American Fork in the third game and theCavemen never trailed as they went on to win the match. "It was a great tournament," tourna-ment," said coach Moae'i. "We still have a lot of things to work on, but we were able to win with what we had worked on, and that gives us a bright future." I Aug. 17 Orem 4, American Fork 0: With injuries to key players piling up, the Cavemen Cave-men were unable to hang with the tough Tigers on the road. The non-league game opened with Kaycee Mansfield and Nikki Packham guiding an American Fork drive deep into Orem territory. Orem's defense presented stubborn resistance. Tiger Brianne Larsen denied Nikki Ybarra a golden chance for a fine shot from inside the penalty area. Cross country I Aug. 18 American Fork girls win at Tooele: The Cavemen Cave-men opened the season by winning both the varsity and JV girls divisions of the Tooele Invitational, held at the mouth of Tooele County's Settlement Canyon on a course that was short of the standard three miles. The boys team did not participate. partici-pate. American Fork coach Bruno Bru-no Hunziker said, "Our varsity girls took first with a score of 32 points. Bingham took second with a score of 60 and Lone Peak third with a score of 69." American Fork had four girls finish in the top 10 of the varsity race. Alexis Laws came in first at 18:27, Danielle West third (19:14), McCall Harward sixth (19:43) and Ermina Martinez eighth (19:47). In addition, Shaylynn Baugh was 15th, Audrey Lewis 16th and Kaovae Belt 19th. "Alexis Laws raced exceptionally excep-tionally well against Lone Peak's top runner Kacee Hildebrandt," Hunziker said. "The weather for the race was perfect for us. It was cloudy." For the girls JV division earlier in the meet, Arista Sommers took first, Amy Riddle second, Kim demons third, Grace Bentley fifth, and Natasha Lye sixth. Also competing for the Cavemen were Lisa Harmon (12th), Lakyn Lux (15th), Ashley Lewis (17th), Jerrica Osmun, Caitlin Livingston and Jenny Makin. "The number of girls we took to the meet was the largest we've had in a while," Hunziker said. "They're going to be competing com-peting at the Grass Relays, which we'll be having this Saturday," the coach pointed out. "We usually don't do real well at the Grass Relays. It's a two-mile race and we're a three-mile team. Still, the Grass Relays give us a chance to know what our strengths are." The field this year includes 24 teams.
