McFarland said the activity helps students to see that languages are fairly similar, and it also gives them the opportunity to move around a little bit. McFarland Mc-Farland said the students use handheld remotes to answer the questions and become quite competitive. Third is a video competition. Kindergarten registration Alpine School District kindergarten kin-dergarten registration dates for the 2007-08 school year have been set for Feb. 26 and 27. Parents are invited to take their kindergarten student to their neighborhood school on those dates for registration. registra-tion. Parents need to have the original birth certificate and immunization records for the student in order to register. American Fork High School I Blood drive The blood drive which was held Monday Mon-day and hosted by the club HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), was called a huge success. More than 150 AFHS students participated par-ticipated as well as many faculty fac-ulty and staff. Enough blood was collected to help 168 people. Due to enormous response, re-sponse, club advisor, Brenda Casper said the club would like to host another drive in a few months where there will be more blood service representatives repre-sentatives on hand to handle the response. The drive was supposed to run from 130- 7 p.m. but lines started forming form-ing at 1 p.m. and continued through 9:30 p.m. Casper, the HOSA club and ARUP Blood Services thanked all who participated and encourage participation again in the near future. I Testing planned The sophomore BSCT tests will be next week with writing on Feb. 13, math on Feb. 14 and reading on Feb. 15. On Tuesday sophomores should report to their first period pe-riod teacher for roll call and will then be dismissed to their testing rooms. On Feb. 13-14, sophomores should report directly to their testing room. Testing will take place from 805 to 9:45 a.m. Junior and senior students should not come to school until 10 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday. I Ballroom competition The AFHS Ballroom team recently competed in a team match against Orem, Timpview, and two teams from Provo High School on Saturday evening. Four couples from each team competed in Waltz, Cha-Cha, Cha-Cha, Quickstep, and Samba. AFHS placed second in the Waltz, Quickstep, and Samba and first in the ChaCha for an overall second place. Couples that danced for AFHS included Waltz KeUi Sumsion and Jason Whetten, ChaCha Kim Crawley and KeenanSmout, Quickstep ' Samantha Hansen and Nephi Mitchell and Samba Giselle Wright and Jon Giffin. The team will compete in two more team matches before be-fore the State Competition at BYUonMarch9. Saturday, the team will host the Caveman Classic in the AFHS gym. Tickets can be purchased at the door. American Fork Junior High School Sweetheart Dance The "Sweetheart Dance" will be tomorrow after school at 3 p.m. Admission is $1 per student. stu-dent. Music festivals The band and orchestra will participate in the solo and ensemble festivals next week. Band solo and ensemble will be Tuesday and orchestra solo and ensemble will be Thursday. Parents are invited to browse the book fair during dur-ing school hours. I Read-a-thon The PTA Jazz Reader read-a-thon will kick off Monday after school with students reading in the gym.
