Jr.' UTAH VALLEY STATE COLLEGE Center Stage hatches production Center Stage Youth Performers Perform-ers are presenting the musical version of Hans Christian Andersen's An-dersen's classic tale of the Ugly Duckling. " 'Honk! Jr.' is a "contemporary "contempo-rary comic staging of a beloved story that celebrates the differences differ-ences that make us unique," said director Lori Sanders. The cast, made up of 55 Utah Valley youths ages 7 through 18, portrays animals ani-mals who sing, dance, and act their way through George Stiles's music and Anthony Drewe's lyrics. lyr-ics. The production f oDows Ugly played by Phillip Varney, who hatches into a family of ducks but is rejected because of his odd looks. Pursued by a villainous and hungry Cat, Michael Hancock, Han-cock, Ugly embarks on a journey to find his way back to his loyal and loving mother, Ida played by Melissa Jenkins. Cm the way he encounters a host of interesting and comical characters who help him discover his own beauty and inspiring identity. "Honk! Jr." will be presented at UVSC's Ragan Theater (located in the student center) on April 25-27 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door or on-line at the Center Stage website web-site www.plgrove.orgstage. I Annual Ballroom Concert scheduled sched-uled Utah Valley State College Department of Dance presents its annual Spring Ballroom Dance concert April 12-15 in the Ragan Theater. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with performances beginning at 7:30 p.m. There will also be a matinee performance April 15 at 2 p.m. The program features the tour team, reserve team and backup team dancing various styles and formations accompanied by . guest musicians. The wide variety vari-ety of dancing includes swing, the Charleston, samba, waltz and foxtrot, danced to music from Broadway musicals, popular popu-lar and classical music will be performed. "This performance will feature the current and four-time reigning reign-ing Open British Champions," said Scott Asbell, ballroom dance director and artist in residence at UVSC. "One of the highlights is Laura Payne, an accomplished pianist as well as UVSC ballroom dance team member and student, accompanying the tour team by playing Bach's "Piano Concerto No. 5" to a beautiful and very elegant foxtrot."
