Show New Utah - Thursday, August 12, 2(XM - Page 10 McFarland named dean at UVSC Tom McFarland has been announced an the new dean for The Schwl of Computer Science and Engineering at Utah Valley State College. McFarland, of American Fork, becomes the Becond dean of the schx)l and takes over after serving as inferior dean for the past 1$ months. "We are the academic school responsible for high technology," said McFarland. "We want to continue to le innovative while still being centered on the student." McFarland will oversee the seven departments that make up the school: computing comput-ing and networking sciences, multimedia communication technology, pre-engineering science, engineering graphics graph-ics and design technology (drafting), electrical automation automa-tion and robotics technology, electronics and computer technology, and computer information technology education. McFarland, who began his connection with UVSC in 1991, has served in a number of positions including: Adjunct faculty , full-time faculty, department chair, and associate dean. "We have found a great leader for the School of Computer Com-puter Science and Engineering," Engineer-ing," said Dr. Brad Cook, vice president for academic affairs. "Tom McFarland really real-ly is the right person for the right time in the history of the Schx)l of Computer Science Sci-ence and Engineering." McFarland received his bachelors degree from the Air Force Academy in psychology and computer science, then received two masters degrees from Webster University in human resource development develop-ment and computer systems management. A retired Air Force Lt. Col., McFarland worked in the computer industry for 10 years before joining UVSC.
