Pleasant Grove City Library received 479 music discs valued at $6,949, Lehi City received 388 at $5,381, and Eagle Mountain Library received 195 CDs valued at $2,775. The libraries are benefiting benefit-ing from an antitrust lawsuit law-suit against the music industry. ' Some of the largest music distributors and retailers paid $143 million in cash and CDs to settle allegations of conspiring to Osmonds to perform at SCERA Saturday Twenty summers ago, when the grass was just taking root along the hillside hill-side at the SCERA Shell outdoor theater, the Osmond Brothers agreed to give an inaugural performance perform-ance on the Orem stage. They gave an enthusiastic concert that filled the hill with standing - or more accurately - sitting-room only. Now, as the SCERA celebrates cele-brates two decades of successful suc-cessful concerts, plays and musicals, Utah's native sons have agreed to a rare return performance July 24 at 8 p.m. at 699 S. State St., in Orem. Tickets are available avail-able through the SCERA Arts Center (745 S. State St.) weekdays or by calling 225-2569. For 47 years, different configurations of the famous performing family have entertained worldwide audiences, While their interests have expanded to include numerous business ventures and raising new generations of Osmonds, they have maintained a loyal following. Some British fans are so devoted, for example, that they plan to travel from England to Orem for the concert. At their " peak, the Osmonds collectively earned 47 gold and platinum plat-inum records. As their popularity pop-ularity exploded in the early 1970s, they surpassed the best single year success of both Elvis and the Beatles Beat-les as they were awarded nine gold records in 1971. Utah libraries received 43,838 CDs worth $594,276 from the settlement. Also, last February, 28,754 Utahns who filed claims received $13.86 checks, totaling $395,689. The Attorney General's Office distributed the music discs to 75 Utah libraries according to the size of the population they serve. "All Utah public libraries are looking forward to making mak-ing these CDs available," said Donna Jones Morris, state library director and state librarian. "Utah citizens citi-zens should take advantage Osmond on stage somewhere. some-where. As Alan, one of the original performing brothers, broth-ers, likes to say, "I don't care who's out there as long as it's an Osmond." For July 24, those Osmonds will be Wayne, Merrill and Jay. They, along with Alan, began singing barbershop harmonies nearly 50 years go and caught the nation's attention atten-tion shortly thereafter when they became regular performers on singer Andy Williams' television show. From their barbershop beginning, they expanded their repertoire to many musical styles, including pop, rock and roll, country and gospel music. This variety vari-ety has given them a wide fan base of young and old. "I can't think of any group that is more ideal to celebrate our 20-year birthday birth-day than the Osmond Brothers," said Dana Robinson, Robin-son, who booked them for the Shell. "They are as talented, tal-ented, charismatic and enthusiastic as ever and give a world class show. They have had record-breaking record-breaking crowds in Branson for 10 years, and we expect that same kind of response here." Although the world is their stage, seven of the Osmond families live in Utah Valley. Among their many contributions is a unique one. They introduced the Stadium Sta-dium of Fire fireworks and concert extravaganza in LaVell Edwards Stadium 25 years ago, and Alan Osmond remains on the Freedom Festival's execu n I A T I 0 Nllll . 9 r 5 2. The music is divided into eight genres: 45 percent rock, 15 percent classical, 12 percent jazz, 11 percent roots, 8 percent country, 6 percent Latin, 2 percent movie soundtracks and 1 percent blues. The percentages percent-ages were determined by Billboard chart listings when the lawsuit was settled set-tled in 2003. Their opportunities are legion. They earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They have been the subject of television biographies biogra-phies and movies. A documentary docu-mentary by Granada Television Televi-sion of British television brought all six performing Osmond Brothers onstage at Andy Williams' Moon River Theater for a reunion performance. All six were honored performers for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and his Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh at the 75th Royal Variety performance perform-ance in Edinburgh last November. And while there, they received two standing ovations. ova-tions. The three performers July 24 have individual strengths. Wayne, second oldest of the original performing per-forming brothers, often performs per-forms lead vocals with a rich, deep voice. He plays clarinet, sax and guitar. Merrill, a middle son, has been the primary lead singer and, with his brothers, broth-ers, wrote the music and lyrics for five number one hit records. A veteran event planner, he produced the "Making of an Inauguration" Inaugura-tion" for President Ronald Reagan. Jay, a drummer as well as a singer, was voted one of the top 10 drummers in the country in the 1970s.
