By Dean Von Memmott Sports Correspondent In a Region 6 soft-ball showdown in Spanish Fork April 20, the Dons defeated American Fork 17-0. Like the rainy weather that afternoon, Don pitcher Brigette Miller proved to be too powerful to be controlled. con-trolled. The Cavemen managed man-aged to get only one hit off her. In the meantime, she posted seven strikeouts. As for American Fork pitcher, Emily Sudar, this was just not her day. That was practically true in the first inning, the round that ultimately decided the game's outcome. After the game had commenced com-menced with Miller striking out the first three American Fork batters, the Dons converted con-verted the opening inning's lower half into a virtual batting bat-ting practice. With Kylee Packard and Jessica Anderson each clubbing club-bing a double, Spanish Fork churned out eight hits that produced a 10-0 lead. Only when Sudar struck out Brooke Snell for the third Don out did the costly round end for American Fork. The Becond inning commenced com-menced with Monica Lamb singling into right, but the Dons did not let the Cavemen Cave-men capitalize on Lamb's single. On two outs in the bottom bot-tom of the second, Miller doubled in Amanda Daniels, then came home on a Teresa Barney single. Sudar's held the Dons to two runs in the second. Kim Thayne replaced Sudar in the pitching spot in the bottom bot-tom of the third, but Daniels clubbed a one-run single that touched off a five-run rally. It ended when Barney clubbed a three-run homer that caused the game to be called on account of the mercy rule. American Fork hosts Springville tomorrow and visits Payson on Wednesday. Wednes-day.
