Show New Utah - Thursday, October 30, 2003 - Page 1 1 Hallowed hauntings Ithe Ghost Ihvestigators Society of Utah reports on famp Floyd research By Debra Hart u f f On Saturday, Oct. 25, at high noon, curious Cedar ' Valley residents packed the ; historic Fairfield school-house school-house to learn more about what and whom they share j their peaceful valley space j with after dark. J According to the Ghost ! Investigators Society of Utah (GIS), Camp FloydStagecoach Inn State Park may have a few linger- ing spirits haunting its his-! his-! torical faculties. Brendan Cook, Jenny Nielsen and Barbara and Roger McBeath of GIS pre sented a program on ghosts and paranormal activity. The group conducted an all- night surveillance of the ark's historic structures and sites last June. TToinff o iravtAn f Annin. ment, GIS detected paranormal para-normal activity in and around the Stagecoach Inn and the old schoolhouse. Infrared video cameras detected bright orbs, micro-cassette micro-cassette tape recorders picked up Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP), thermal scanners indicated variations varia-tions in temperature, and the lights of the electromagnetic electromag-netic detectors lit up in various var-ious rooms. Brendan played a recording record-ing of an EVP they picked up outside in Fairfield which said "I'm swimming." He also presented a large sampling of EVPs from the group's extensive research at other historical sites. The five-member team of investigators forms a nonprofit, non-profit, closed society which offers its services free of charge. They travel to various locations together to research, investigate, document docu-ment and educate the public pub-lic on ghost phenomena and hauntings. Their interest in investigating investi-gating the Camp Floyd State Park was stimulated by the history of the area and the EVP saying "I'm swimming," which they recorded during a preliminary prelimi-nary visit Barry Boris is also a member tof the group which helped conduct the investigation investi-gation in June, but he was unable to attend the Fairfield Fair-field presentation. Utilizing infrared video cameras, GIS recorded numerous orbs in and around the schoolhouse, which they consider condensed con-densed or concentrated spirit energy that takes the form of an illuminated ball suspended or floating through the air. Orbs are the most common form of spirits they witness on film. They also recorded ectoplasms, ecto-plasms, which resemble a gaseous cloud, squiggles floating across the screen, or appearing like a fog or mist. They describe ectoplasm ecto-plasm as spirit beings in a relaxed state. "We invite them to talk with us and tell us how they are feeling," said Barbara. "We are respectful of the locations we go to and respectful of the entities -we talk to them as if they are alive." 4fL Tj" .J! i jii ; rrr,. r I i I t! vf: : I g ! ft t II M r mr- I Photo by Debra Hart Roger McBeath (left) shares information on paranormal activity with a standing-room only crowd In the historic Fairfield Schoolhouse on Oct. 25. The Ghost Investigators Society of Utah presented their findings of an investigation of Fairfield's historical sites which they conducted last June. The group, which formed more than five years ago, is striving to document that a person's consciousness sometimes survives and continues after their body dies. They seem to have a reason rea-son (for being here)," said Barbara. "I don't think some (spirits) realize they're dead." She theorizes they have unfinished business, busi-ness, suffered an untimely death or unexpected illness, or have jealousy problems or personal issues which cause them to linger. "We do believe they are here (in Fairfield's historical histori-cal buildings) because of what we've been told and experienced on video," said Barbara in closing. "We hope we've given you a little different perspective of ghosts ... we tend to be afraid of things we don't understand."
