Show New Utah American Fork Citizen - Thursday, January 9, 2003 - Page 12 Youd Continued from front page which allows schedules to run more smoothly. She is able to help with shaping up offices, kitchens, bedrooms, bed-rooms, food storage rooms, or whole homes. In her own home, Youd has found that the simple step of organizing the children's chil-dren's games and toys has made them more usable. Organizing the family's papers has made them much easier to find, and eliminating a lot of unnecessary unneces-sary items that need to be dusted simplifies their lives. When Youd walks into the home or office of a frustrated frus-trated client, she first asks questions about the individual's individ-ual's preferences and lifestyle. She observes how he functions, learns who uses the space to be worked on, and what methods for order were used before. Keeping the natural tendencies ten-dencies of each client in mind, she makes an assessment assess-ment of the area to be coordinated, coordi-nated, and sets up a plan that will create not necessarily necessar-ily neatness, but a system that will allow the surroundings surround-ings to be more accessible so that his life functions better. Occasionally Youd has to carefully quiz the client on why he is hanging on to certain cer-tain items of clutter, and advises that it is burdensome to hang on to so much "stuff" Things don't love you back," she often points out, but she also realizes that sometimes an item represents a client's love for someone. She notes that it helps if the client is in a "purging mood" so that she can help him sort, simplify, and sometimes find a container for. Even the right box or bin can make a difference because sometimes the container con-tainer can be part of the problem. When working with closets clos-ets or food storage areas, she measures the space and items; then offers solutions depending on the client's budget. She looks to see if there is enough light in the room, if vertical storage can be added, and if a seasonal rotation would be a benefit. Sometimes Youd draws on the carpenter-abilities of her husband, Russell, to build closets, shelves, dividers, and other additions addi-tions that might be needed in an office or home. Too much clutter can "totally overwhelm and interfere with a person's peace and self-esteem," she says. Belongings can be a burden and an obstacle, but when organized, an individual individ-ual can experience increased capacity.
