"You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" unfolds in a kaleidoscopic kaleido-scopic series of songs and 'scenes that bring the familiar comic-strip world of Charlie Brown and the PEANUTS gang to theatrical life. Featuring book and music by Clark Gesner, "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" premiered in New York in 1967 and charmed critics and audiences alike for five years. It has since become one of the world's most popular musicals, musi-cals, spawning 13 national and 15 international companies and a Hallmark Hall of Fame television televi-sion production. Familiar songs from the score include "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," "Suppertime" and "Happiness." The American Fork production produc-tion is directed by Kelly Lemons, with musical direction by Merrilee Barratt and choreography chore-ography by Tara Lemons. Lemons said one of the charms of the production is that it appeals to all ages. "It's one of those plays that kids will like, but it really calls to the adults," Lemon said. "It's about hope following Charlie Brown through his ups and down and how he never gives up." Lemon said the cast, ages 18 through 35, bring a lot of experience expe-rience and stage presence to American Fork's outdoor stage. . Call as Charlie Brown will be featured in the American Fork Arts Council production of "You're a Good M an, Charlie Brown." He said the amphitheater is one of the undiscovered outdoor venues in Utah County. "It's very beautiful out there," Lemon said, comparing the 60-year-old amphitheater to similar outdoor theater experiences expe-riences in Utah. "It's a little more secluded so people forget it's there, but it's very nice with the trees and the old stone." The amphitheater, which is near the Mt. Timpanogos LDS Temple, was originally part of the campus of the Utah State Developmental Center, but was acquired last year by American Fork City, which is in the process of upgrading the theater the-ater facility. The audience not only has a view of the stage, but also a nice overlook of Utah Valley from the amphitheater seats. However, the seats are made of concrete and rock, and audi ence members are encourages to bring something soft to sit on. Lemon said the set will cover the 50-foot stage with a PEANUTS comic strip and familiar pieces from the comic strip such as Snoopy's dog house, Lucy's psychiatrist stand and Schroeder's piano, which he said will look like the comic strip piano, but play like the real thing.
