Boy Scouts can enroll in a 10 week Scout Swim Program to earn their merit badges in swimming or lifesaving. The Scouts will b taught by qualified merit badge instructors in safety rules, rescue techniques and swimming swim-ming endurance skills. Two scout swim classes will be offered a swimming class and a life saving class. The boys must know how to swim before enrolling in either class and all Scouts must take the basic swimming courss before being allowed to enroll in the lifesaving class. An eight-week summer sum-mer tennis instruction course for youth, ages 7 to 18 years, is also being offered at the University. Participants in this course will be taught all the basics of tennis by qualified instructors, says Larry Wickham, youth program administrator. ad-ministrator. A "scientific exploration" ex-ploration" course will be taught for children 8 years old and up. It will be in the Monte L, Bean Life Science Museum at BYU. The study of reptiles, insects and fish will all be a part of this 10 week course which will give the participants a chance to visit the BYU planetarium, a dinosaur display, tree and shrub displays, a pond and the Bean Life Science Museum. Typing is rapidly becoming a necessary skill in school, church and business. Young students will have the opportunity to learn this valuable skill in a special 10 week typing course. Students 10 to 15 years of age are invited to participate in this program which will teach them typing etiquette, accuracy, neatness, simple composition com-position at the typewriter and the proper format of letters and school papers. Ail of these youth courses will be offered Saturday mornings beginning June 3. The basic swimming course will be from 11 a.m. to noon. The life saving course 'will be from 10 to 11 a.m. For both classes the Scouts will be furnished with swimsuits and towels. The tennis course will consist of three classes each Saturday morning. mor-ning. The classes will be one hour each, beginning begin-ning at 9 a.m. Participants Par-ticipants in this program will be assigned to classes according ac-cording to their ages. The scientific exploration ex-ploration course will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Monte L. Bean Life Science"Mu8eum. The typing class will be from 9 to 11 a.m. sad instruction will be on IBM selectric typewriters. All necessary supplies will be furnished by t!ie University.
