Show With Tom Griffiths- Accidents Claimed 19 Lives In Nat. Park Area Last Year I am beginning to wonder if 1S77 will be known as the year of the rip offs. For example, the oil companies com-panies who own most of our . service stations are starting a movement to increase the price of the annual automobile inspection to five dollars. They say the operators are losing money on the present fee. I must admit it takes a little longer to inspect an older car, but with the newer cars the present fee is more than adequate. ade-quate. Then, when repairs are necessary, the inspector usually usual-ly is given the go ahead to do the work. Well, the gas company has done it again. Another raise in price. This time they are not waiting for permission by the Public Service Commission. They must feel secure the commission will do as they always have done, grant the increase. Did you notice that the Public Pub-lic Service Commission has requested sixty thousand dollars dol-lars to pay for its staff. I realize this is a snide remark, but what does the P.S.C. need a staff for when it grants every request for a price increase in-crease requested by the utility companies? Then back in Washington the rip off capital of the world a committee is requesting six million dollars to reopen the investigation of the assassina- 1977 State Fair Dates Announced The 1977 Utah State Fair will take place September 8 to 18, Fair Director Hugh C. You should replace old pots-they pots-they do become useless. Many people feel th2t they can wash or soak fertilizer out of old pots, but that is impossible. Throw the pots away. They are not even useful use-ful as broken pieces in the bottom of another pot. For best culture, use a new clay pot. Use polyethylene film to cover the pot after you have watered the plant well. If you do this, some plants can be left unattended for many weeks before they require additional ad-ditional water. HANDY HINT: Cover recently rooted, sir-layered sir-layered plants to retard water less from faHsse. tions of President Kennedy and Martin Luther King. If they do find something different about these cases, such as if Castro was involved, what will the committee do? Give a six million dollar report to the public? This type of thing must be contagious. I see where our local senator is co-sponsoring a bill to give a posthumous release to a man who was convicted of murder back in 1915. This was sixty-two years ago and I am sure the facts involved in the case have been dulled by time. I don't know how old our senator is, but he may not have been born at that time, and if he was he was just a little too young to have any interest in such a case. One can only wonder what is the motive in sponsoring such a bill. The constituents are crying out loud and long against such things as increased property taxes, and soon an increase in gasoline tax and our representatives represen-tatives are using their valuable valua-ble time in digging up dead horses. Concerning the proposed increase in-crease in gasoline taxes, I hope our elected officials will be aware of the latest report of tax collections in the State. The report shows that tax collections col-lections for the first six months are 15 percent higher than a year ago, and the highway high-way construction and maintenance mainten-ance fund is up almost two million dollars. These are the ones requesting the gasoline tax increase. Have you noticed that government officials don't give much thought how they spend the taxpayer's money. For example, just recently the fellow democrats of Hubert Humphrey voted to give him a new title and role of "Deputy President Pro Tempore of the Senate". With the title goes a new limousine and an extra eight thousand dollars increase in-crease in salary. In addition there will be a new office and staff. They make their own rules back there and the taxpayer pays the bill. Recently one of our townsmen complained to the Tax Commission about the terrific increase in property taxes. "Don't blame the Tax Commission," he was told. Go to your elected representatives. representa-tives. This is a good point to remember at the next election.
