Show i 3 'A i retire 1H fi F5u. 'F veties by Betty Spencer Our beautiful Indian Summer Sum-mer has had mixed eifcct upon the population. Those among us who hate to shovel snow, dry wet woolen mittens and wipe up puddles of water from snow packed galoshes are enjoying en-joying our respite. There are a lot of commercial commer-cial rampfications, however, as this was to have been the opening of ski season in Utah and there is no snow! I am sorry about that. In fact, it is easy to see who is a "snow bunny" and who is a "sun lover" by the attitude they take towards our lack of snow. The snow bunnies are waxing their skis, trying on their new fur parkas and fingering fin-gering their season pass at Snowbird. The sun lovers are still wearing their dark glasses every day, driving with the sun roof open on their Volkswagen Volks-wagen and raking leaves in their spare time. ' I am one of the people who could be said to waver in my opinion of the question, to snow or not to snow. I remember the snow play activities acti-vities of my younger days and think it was a pleasant experience. exper-ience. I don't recall how difficult diffi-cult it was on my mother to clean up after us, but we spent a good deal of time out in the backyard making forts and igloos ig-loos and having snowball fights. In fact, the biggest igloo ig-loo ever created by the kids on pur block was the brainchild of my big brother, Jim. When he does anything, he does it up big. He also convinced me and a couple of neighborhood youngsters that working on his igloo was the biggest thing since popcorn. We piled snow into blocks, which my brother neatly stacked one upon the other, they formed an igloo so big that a kid could stand up in it. It took us a couple of days and I recall that we finished it on Thanksgiving morning, just before we left for Grandma's house to eat turkey dinner. It turned cold after that heavy snowfall and the igloo stayed firm and tail for many days. Meanwhile, my brother was capitalizing on his ingenuity ingen-uity and was charging all the neighborhood kids who wanted to go inside. Everybody wanted want-ed to do it. Seriously, I think we need snows, at least down to the "G" on the Wasatch Mountains. Moun-tains. Rationalizing, I consider the fact that snow means water and water means good crops and good crops mean food on the table and money in the pocket for those of us who live in this valley. Sooner or later, the snow dance craze is going to catch on. A popular Salt Lake disc jockey is giving instructions on how to conduct a successful snow dance. You put on your winter coat, go stand out on the front porce, gaze respectfully respect-fully in the direction of the nearest mountain - and do a standing-in-place shuffle. And I guess we do need the snow. So all together now. Button But-ton up your coat, step out on the porch and look at Mt. Tim-panogos Tim-panogos and do it. A one and a two and a three. Let it snow! AMERICAN FORK CITIZEN WEDNESDAY, NOV. 24. 1976 or just after it begins floating. - Use the smallest spinner-baits spinner-baits you can get in streams, small lakes, and ponds. The big models are effective in large, deep lakes and impoundments, im-poundments, for which they were originally designed; but little ones are better in smaller waters. - Even a small piece of weed or grass clinging to the hook of a lure will turn the fish off. When fishing in weedy water, it is wise to examine the lure frequently, even after every cast, to make sure it is clean. - A fish has a clear view of any lure fished under the sur- face of the water, so exact imitations of insects and minnows min-nows are effective. But a fish sees the shape and size of a surface lure, more than its color, so the floating fly or bug should be chosen with that fact in mind. - To interpret the readings on your steam thermometer, remember this simple forum-la: forum-la: Fish will be found in deep areas when the water's surface sur-face temperature is colder than 45 degrees and also when it is warmer than 75 degrees. Fishing Facts. . . - Best way to fish a floating plug that dives down into the water on a steady, fairly fast retrieve is to reel it in fast for a short distance, then stop and allow the lure to come to the surface, then reel fast again and once more let it surface. Often a strike will come when the lure is nearing the surface 8 ctasBionaBfa frees man sKallmarR sfurfs This year's fashionable Christmas tree wears a floor-length skirt by Hallmark.
