Those who won prizes are front, kneeling, 1. to r., Roger Fannin, Best Looking Car; Mark Willson, Third Place, eight year olds; Joel Williamson, Seo ond Place, nine year olds; and Scott Killlan, Grand Champion. Forrnar American Folic Resicbnl Uid to Rest Myrtle Emily Dow Balr Bates, 78, Salt Lake City, died in a Salt Lake hospital Wednesday, of an extended illness. Funeral services ser-vices for Mrs. Bates, a former American Fork resident, were held at Deseret Mortuary, Salt Lake City, last Friday, with burial bur-ial in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Bates was born April 25, 189 2 in Fairfield, Utah, to Royal and Mary Carson Daw. She married Charles Bair inSalt Lake City. He died in 1943 and she later married Leonard Bates in 1945. They resided in American Ameri-can Fork for two years prior to his death. Mr. Bates died July 22, 1954. Survivors included one son, Charles Royal Bair, Alamo, California; Cal-ifornia; step-sons and stepdaughters, step-daughters, Benjamin Bates, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Francis (Hilda) Pulley, American Fork; Mrs. Mary Grant, Salt Lake City; and Mrs. Iris Manning, West Jor-don; Jor-don; 16 grandchildren; two sisters, sis-ters, Mrs. Eva Bair, Maywood, Calif.; and Mrs. Erma Chandler, Chand-ler, Nebraska. Bishop Harold N. Harris conducted con-ducted memorial services and offered words of .condolence to the family.-'Tne family prayer was offered by Stan Merrill, with Jed Poulsen speaking the opening prayer. Speaker were Robert Bird and former bishop Harry W. Madsen, who spoke of their association with Mrs. Bates as a friend and neighbor. Mental Health Open House Set County Commissioner Stanley D. Roberts wishes to announce that during Mental Health Month -which is traditionally identified as May, the public is invited to attend Open House at the Utah State Hospital on May 7, from 10:30 to 12 noon, and at theTim-panogos theTim-panogos Mental Health Center at 160 East Center, Provo, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tours will be conducted. con-ducted. Come and learn what is being done for Mental Health. Mrs. Calvin L. Rampton will be present during the Open House to meet and chat with people interested inter-ested in Mental Health. Musical interludes were two vocal selections, "Oh, My Father" Fath-er" and "In the Garden," sung by Nona Harris and Winifred Stokes, and a medley of organ selections. The benediction was spoken by Clifford C. Firth and John Van Katwyik offered the dedicatory dedi-catory prayer.
