Taylor Receives Army Commendation Sp. 4 David Kim Taylor has received the Army Commendation Commenda-tion medal for Achievement. Sp. 4 Taylor is serving with the U. S. Army at Long Bink, Viet Nam. The Commendation says Pfc Taylor's (he has since been promoted) pro-moted) work "casts great credit on himself, Saigon Support Command Com-mand and the U. S. Army." A finance clerk in the controllers control-lers office at Long Bink, he established es-tablished a "contract monitor-ship monitor-ship notebook," originated an "entirely new and more efficient filing system for all contracts, contract amendments and contract con-tract correspondence," and "showed outstanding professional profession-al knowledge and ability in organizing or-ganizing a comprehensive filing system of contract data so that information couldbe logically and easily located." His work" implemented a communications com-munications system between the U. S. Army Procurement Agency Agen-cy in Viet Nam and the ACS Controller which enabled Saigon Support Command to obtain the needed financial data as soon as possible." The Commendation noted that the system was implemented during dur-ing a period of a month. Kim is the son of Mr. andMrs. Ira J. Taylor of American Fork. He is a graduate of American Fork High School and attended Dixie College and Brigham Young University before serving on an LDS mission to Argentina. He was employed in California before be-fore being drafted into the U. S. Army in January of I960 as one of the first men to be called from Utah County under the new draft lottery system. He received his basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington, graduating grad-uating in June, and left for Viet Nam shortly after completing his training. Goaies, Lehi Native, Dies in California Col. Floyd W. Goates, 74, former for-mer Salt Lake City businessman and university instructor, died Friday, in an Army hospital in San Francisco of a heart ailment. ail-ment. A graduate of Lehi High School, Col. Goates, received a degree in business administration from Utah State University and a master's mas-ter's degree in merchandising from New Y'ork University. He was a charter member of Pi-Kappa Pi-Kappa Alpha at Utah State University. Uni-versity. Col. Goates served as merchandising mer-chandising director for several New York firms, then was merchandising mer-chandising director and coordinator coordi-nator for ZCMI in Salt Lake City and its branch stores in Utah and Idaho. He also owned and operated op-erated his own shoe store in Sugar Su-gar House for several yeaiJ. A 30-year veteran of the U. S. Army, Col. Goates enlisted in the Quartermaster Corps as a lieutenant in World War I. After Af-ter the war he served as an instructor in-structor in military science and polo coach at the University of Utah. During World War II, he served serv-ed on the staff of Gen. Douglas MacArthur in the South Pacific. After the war Col. Goates direct ed the Army's Blue Danube Radio Network in Europe, keeping six news stations on the air for 18 hours a day, and trailing speakers speak-ers and announcers. He later was assigned to the 1st Army at Governor's Gov-ernor's Island, New York. A member of the LDS Church, Col. Goates served as a high priest group leader in the Los Altos Ward. A native of Lehi, Col. Goates was born June 16, 1896, the son of George Hyrum and Louisa Munns Goates. He married Florence Flor-ence Sandback May 18, 1918. She died Nov. 2, 1918, He married Jessica Bird June 27, 1923 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Survivors include his widow and son, Richard B., both of Pal-os Pal-os Verdes Estates; three grandchildren; grand-children; two brothers and two sisters, Leslie, long time newspaper news-paper reporter and columnist; Mrs. Emma J. Phillips, both Salt Lake City; FrancisR., serving serv-ing an LDS mission in Scotland; Mrs. LaureenG. Hansen of Orem. Funeral services were held Monday in Los Altos, California. Additional funeral services were held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Wing Mortuary Chapel in Lehi. Burial was in the Lehi City Cemetery.
