Police Deof. Kent Nicholes has been named to the American Fork Police Department, bringing the department depart-ment to full strength, according to Police Chief Boyd E. Adams. Officer Nicholes will bring to six the number of officers on the local department, in addition to Chief Adams. A native of Birdseye, Mr. Nic holes graduated from Spanish Fork Hieh School and attended Brigham Young University for two and one half years, where he malored in law enforcement. He has been employed by Orem City as animal control officer and served as a dispatcher in the Orem Police Department from AotU to September of this year. He has also been a security guard at Sienetics. He is married to the former Carolyne Smith, of Provo, and they are currently residing in American Fork. The new officer is presently attending the six-week session of the Utah Police Academy at the University of Utah for special training in police work. Cooperation Asked For 4-H National Center Utah 4-H members, leaders, supervisors and interested parents par-ents have been Invited to participate par-ticipate in the enlargement of the National 4-H Center in Washington, Wash-ington, D. C. The National 4-H Center is located in suburban Washington, D. C, and is the only youth educational facility of its kind serving the 4-Hprogram throughout America and around the world. Nearly 2,000 Jr. Leaders and adults are trained at the Center each year. The National 4-H Center expansion program is supported by 4-H members in aU 50 states and by business and industry. Utah County 4-H'ers have been asked to Join in this over-all drive for funds to enlarge this National Center. It is sutreested that 50 cents per member be raised through money raising projects, and personal donations, or otherwise ootainea and sent to Washington, D. C, to help. Howard C. Harder, Chairman of the C.P.C. Intsrnational Incorp. is the Chairman of the National 4-H Advisory Council, a group of 150 business leaders who are dedicated to center ex pansion. Mrs. Richard M. Nixon and JC Penney are the honorary hono-rary co-chairmen of the Council Utah County has participated in the leadership training which has been given at the Center. Last Am-il. Krttie Harvey, of A- merican Fork, attended tne na tional 4-H Center sponsored by American Fork businpcnon Steven Banks attended the na tional 4-H Center a year ago last SDrine and was sponsored by 4-H members throughout Utah County. Through the years we have sent individuals back to the 4-H Center. With the enlarge ment program now underway, it is suggested that in the future. we will be sending groups of neoole to the National 4-H Cen ter to receive special leadership training. The youth of today need many opportunities. The National 4-H Club Foundation provides a solid base for this sort of youth involvement, -jnri it sends thousands of young men and women back into your! states each year ready to be able to become effective members of the community.
