Anderson, is dua a hearty vote of thanks from aTl residents resi-dents of the community and the large number of visitors the celebration drew from neighboring neighbor-ing cities. The 1970 Steel Days Celebration Celebra-tion might be compared to the structure of an iceberg, the surface sur-face portion seen by the jr'blic only a small part of the whole. For the celebrants who had three fun-filled days of ex citing events, the celebration was, indeed, a three-day event. Work on the 1970 celebration, however, actually ac-tually began immediately after the 1969 celebration was completed. com-pleted. Committee work has been in progress since February, with many of the plans and events scheduled prior to that time. Countless hours of work and effort have been involved, with each individual event requiring extensive planning, committee work and sustained effort to produce. pro-duce. The continuity of the present pres-ent Steel Days committee is excellent, ex-cellent, with control and support for 1970 is no history, going down in the record books as one of the biggest, best community celebrations ever sponsored by American Fork City. The 1970 celebration was a quality celebration, with everything every-thing kept first class. Events were well scheduled and olanned to give many residents of the community an opportunity to participate par-ticipate either as an entrant or spectator in activities geared to their particular liking. It was a family celebration all the way. About six years r?o, this writer writ-er attended a meeting of city of ficials and interested citizens who were attempting to revive the then defunct Steel Days Celebration. Cel-ebration. One of those attending, a prominent businessman, was against a revival, taking the stand that American Fork had outgrown a community celebration. He has been proven wrong! Admittedly, the celebration requires re-quires great effort, personal sacrifice sac-rifice and at times financial support sup-port of those who are called to serve the community as committee commit-tee members. It is often a thankless thank-less task, with criticism frequently fre-quently directed at those in charge without thought of extenuating exten-uating circumstances of long range plans which dictated action. ac-tion.
