With all members of the board of education and administrative personnel present, President Boyd J. Lars en directed the board's discussion of the budget report for August. Clerk Elijah Chipman reviewed the report in relationship to actual ac-tual revenue and expenditures for the month and answered pertinent perti-nent questions concerning it. The report was approved as presented. pre-sented. Claims for August amounting in total to $691,064.33 were presented presen-ted to the board by Kent J. Abel, administrative assistant. The claims were reviewed and approved. ADULT -EDUCATION REPORT Ellen W. Brown, supervisor of adult education, reviewed for board information the 1968-69 adult education report for the Alpine Al-pine District. During the past year, 169 adult classes were held in the district. These classes were attended by 3,328 students. This represents an increase of fifteen classes and 374 students over the previous prev-ious year. Twenty-seven students were graduated from the Adult High School, while fourteen others used us-ed credit for transfer purposes. Another large group of students used the adult vocational pro gram to learn new or improve old vocational skills. The district dis-trict adult program is recognized recog-nized quite generally for its over all effectiveness. REPORT ON DRUG USE Superintendent Dan W. Peterson Peter-son reviewed for board Information Inform-ation the State Board of Education's Educa-tion's "Drug Abuse Survey." The survey conducted by the State Board iA Education at the direction of the Governor was made last May. The findings, although al-though tending to point out some definite problems, show Alpine District to be somewhat below the state average In the use of marijuana, mari-juana, speed, glue, and LSD. It is anticipated that with refinement refine-ment Jf the survey figures will be publicized in the future. Eli K. Clayson, board member, mem-ber, was appointed by the board of education as a member of the district's TaxSheltered Committee. Commit-tee. Mr. Clayson will join with the other nine members in dire"t-lng dire"t-lng the district's tax sheltered program in the regular annuity and variable annuity areas. A joint effort of Orem City and Alpine School District will develop de-velop a park-playground facility at the Windsor School. After developing de-veloping the plans and details for the join venture, the district retained re-tained three building lots near the area. The board or education authorized Superintendent Dan W. Peterson to place the properties with realtors on a multiple listing list-ing basis and dispose of them. IMMUNIZATION CLINICS As of last year, the Alpine School District took over from the local cities all of the immunization im-munization clinics that are held in the schools. The results have been effective. This year the board authorized that a recommendation recom-mendation of the Utah County Health Department be followed that will add the oral polio ser ies and shots against rubeola to the immunization offering for school age children. Those representing rep-resenting American Firh are Janet Adams. Don Brown, Ruth Day, Kirk Magleby, ShannonSav-age ShannonSav-age and Jerry Varney. The program is a half-hour news quiz which pits the girl trio against the boy team. The perint endents, State School Boards Association, and State Department of Public Instruction met to discuss a negotiation-, bill and to clarify their positions concerning the matter. Mr. Smith concluded that a negotiations bill was undoubtedly forthcoming, but that its form and content were still a matter of concern. The teams will compete for United States savings sav-ings bonds. The program will be videotaped video-taped October 2, at 2:00 p.m., in the KUTV studios.
