The four-bed unit is staffed on a 24-hour basis by Registered Nurses who have completed specialized spec-ialized intensive care training including special training on emergency em-ergency measures to be taken If needed in caring for heart patients, pa-tients, critically injured or acutely ac-utely ill persons. The unit is equipped with sen-sitlve sen-sitlve monitoring units which constantly measure patients' heart stimulus through the use of electrodes. These electrodes are taped to the chest of the intensive in-tensive care patient and are sensitive sen-sitive enough to pick up electrical elec-trical stimulus of the heart, relaying re-laying this to a small monitoring screen. The heart stimulus is then recorded on both individual monitors mon-itors located above each bed and on a central monitor situated on the nurses' charting desk, alert-ing alert-ing nursing personnel if "trouble" of some type develops. Officials stressed that these electrodes are lightweight and provide no discomfort to the patients. There is no electrical charge of any kind felt in connection con-nection with them, they said. The central monitoring system sys-tem is equipped with an alarm system which serves as a "double alert" in warning per sonnel if a patient needs im mediate attention. All of the equipment works automatically. Also located in the intensive care unit is a " crash cart' ' equipped equip-ped with various types of em ergency equipment and drugs. Dr. Guy Richards is staff doc tor in charge of the unit. Sgt. Ronald Sgt. Ronald Hansen Receives $8,000 Enlistment Bonus Staff Sergeant Ronald L. LaTron-ico, LaTron-ico, and Martha Pantos. Arlene Hobbs, is currently completing a course at the Medical Center. All registered nurses, they will serve in the Intensive Care Unit. Mrs. Moody noted that there is one registered nurse on each shift, thus maintaining constant supervision by a professional nurse... "the patients are never left alone," she said. The Intensive Care unit was equipped through hospital employees em-ployees donating one days' wages to purchase the necessary specialized spec-ialized equipment, Wayne R. Mc-Tague, Mc-Tague, hospital administrator, said. Cost was approximately $10,000. Previously, acutely inpatients had to be transferred to either Salt Lake or Provo hospitals to be cared for and officials feel the new Intensive Care unit will be a "life-saving" additiontothe community in that these patients can receive the f '""ialized care they need immediately. VISITORS LIMITED Hospital officials stressed that visitors to the patients in the Intensive Care Unit will be limited lim-ited to immediate family members mem-bers only. These may visit but 5-minutes each visiting hour and then only if the nurse in charge feels that the patients' condition condi-tion warrants visiting privileges. Due to limited space, no floral pieces will be allowed in the unit. Officials suggest that if you wish to send flowers to patients pa-tients in the intensive care unit, you send them to his home or wait until he (or she) is moved into a regular ward. r f, r it ' , 1 . .'
