Show Gala Utah Valley Symphony Opening Wednesday, Ocl. 25 The ninth season of the Utah Valley Symphony Orchestra opens with Wednesday night's Gala at the Provo LDS Tabernacle Taber-nacle at 8:15 p.m. under the baton of Professor Lawrence Sardoni. Program for the evening even-ing Includes Dvorak's Symphony No. 4, Brahms' "Tragic Overture Over-ture andlppolltow-Iwanow's Caucasian Sketches." Organized In 1958 by Profes sor Jacob Bos and James Mason, the orchestra has been conducted by the finest conductors of Utah Valley as well as guest con ductors such as Jose Iturbl. Be sides the founders, permanent conductors have been Dr. A Harold Goodman and Professor Sardoni, who returns for a sec ond seaon this year. Replacing Concertmaster Richard Rich-ard Nibley, whose professional teaching at Snow College made it Impractical for him to retain re-tain membership in the orchestra, orches-tra, is Percy Kalt, who appeared last year as guest soloist shortly after his return from Germany where he had completed two years as a Fullbright Scholar. Clarinetist David Thayne, returning re-turning .from several years of teaching In California to do graduate grad-uate study at BYU joins the orchestra as first clarinetist. While regretting the loss of oboist obo-ist Dr. Darrel Stubbs to the Utah Symphony this season, Conductor Con-ductor Sardoni Is proud of two young oboists returning to the Uiih Valley Orchestra, Mrs. M-irtha Craig Sargent and Wayne Potts. Former members returning re-turning after leaves of absence for missions are Jerol Clark, English horn, and Terry Hill, viola. Season tickets are still available av-ailable from all members of the symphony board, symphony guild, and members of the orchestra. They can also be purchased at the door.
