Show BLUE RIBBOII DAY July 24 was Alpine's Community Commu-nity Fair and city celebration with the theme, 'The Desert Shall Blossom as a Rose." Alpine Is nearly 117 years old. Large crowds turned out for every event. The fair was held In the cleverly clever-ly decorated city recreation hall with many beautiful contributions. contribu-tions. Sweepstakes winners were: Photography, Lynn Hales, Jr.; Home Sewing, Juanlta Jackson; Handicrafts, Mrs. Anna Wolfen-stonj Wolfen-stonj Rugs, Mrs. Dora Shepherd; Rabbits, Kyle Terry; Flowers, Mrs. Don Taylor, Mrs. Joyce Adams and Mrs. Blanche Bennett; Ben-nett; Canning, Mrs. Jennie Wild and Mrs. Inez Forbes; Breads, Kayleen Bennett; Cakes, Gaya Carlton; Sweet Breads, Phyllis Ingram; and Quilts, Mrs. Kathleen Kath-leen Bateman. The hailstorm had taken care of the sweepstakes ribbon for the gardens this year. Mrs. Corene Bennett, Mrs. Sophia Terry, Lynn Hale, David Healey, Don Taylor, Alden Shurtz and Mrs. Minnie McDaniel were some who worked to make this the success it was. Games and races were held at the new school with about 100 or more children participating, after which a bike race took place with Shirley Devey, Farrln Wild, and Jewel Burgess coming In as first place winners. Burke Hea-ton Hea-ton and Mrs. Donna Mae Carter were in charge of this event. The 4-H horse show, under the direction of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Heaps held the Interest of a large crowd. Scott Blackburn took sweepstakes In the fitting and showing of the Junior division and Tom Heaps took first place In the Senior Division. Kim Turner Tur-ner took sweepstakes in Western Pleasure, Junior Division, and Kendall Adamson and Grant Heg-erhorst Heg-erhorst both placed first in the Senior Division. The barrel race was won by Mark Hegerhorst and Tom Heaps won the poles. Dwalne Devey and Tom Heaps were first place winners in the keyhole race and Nancy and Kendall Miller rode away as first place winners for jumping. Mike McBride did a fine Job as Judge and Jerry Mc-Ghie Mc-Ghie was the announcer. The Alpine Lions Club had their Chuckwagon available all afternoon and evening, and all proceeds went toward building a bowery for the new city park. As the sun set, the outdoor sociability dance was held with a combo. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hansen were in charge of this. Prizes were awarded for the best dancers. A beautiful fireworks display ended a very eventful day. The day was sponsored by the 4-H Clubs, Garden Club, Lions and City, with Eldge Warnlck, committee chairman and Mrs. Jennie Wild, co-chairman who really got things going. There will be basketballs and other equipment available between be-tween the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. All activities will be fref. We trust that all who use the gym will keep in mind that it belongs to all of us, the citizens of Alpine, and will help take care of it and protect it from being abused. There Is a new tennis net. The city well will be on weekdays week-days from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and on Saturday beginning at noon. Please plan to water you lawns between those hours. Watering of cemetery lots should also be done during this time with the north lots on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and the south lots on Tuesday, Thursday andSaturday. Fork Man Dies Mrs. Charlotte Marie Berner-Bartholomew, Berner-Bartholomew, 82, of Salt Lake City, mother of Ben G. B?rtholo-mew, B?rtholo-mew, died recently at the Utah Valley Hospital of natural causes. She was a former resident of Sprlngville. Funeral services were held in Sprlngville and burial was in the Fayette, Utah cemetery. She was born Aug. 22, 1834 in Lucerne, Switzerland, a daughter of Ferdinand and Maria Shank Berner. She came to Utah In 1903 as a convert to the LD3 Church. She was married to George M. Bartholomew on June 2, 1909, in the Salt Lake LD3 Temple. He died in 1950. They made their home in Fayette Fay-ette following their marriage, and later moved to Sprlngville. I would like to say that for the several years that he has been band leader in American Ameri-can Fork, he has put forth his very best effort and many, many hours of his own time to teach and train our boys and girls to be the outstanding group they are year after year.
