Show Alpine School Board Report . . . With all members of the board of education and administrative personnel present, President R. Phil Shumway directed the board's discussion of the budget, building and sites reports for Marcfc. Clerk Elijah Chlpman reviewed re-viewed these reports in relationship relation-ship to actual revenue and expenditures expen-ditures for the period. The Board accepted the reports as they were presented. Claims for March amounting to $1,379,465.53 were reviewed by Mr. Abel and given board approval. ap-proval. Dr. Quinn A. Hatch reviewed for the board's consideration instructional in-structional equipment requests that had been compiled from the various schools. Dr. Hatch explained ex-plained the formula upon which the requests were based and evaluated, eval-uated, and recommended a budget figure of $166,000.00 to meet the cost. The board approved. Orvil B. Davis, director of maintenance and operations, reviewed re-viewed for the board's consideration consider-ation the general maintenance and operation needs and a special area ar-ea of school lunch needs. Mr. Davis described the method and formula for arriving at his need" figures and the board gave approval to expenditures expendi-tures of $180,209.00 in the general gen-eral maintenance and operations area, and $68,870.00 in the school lunch area. Superintendent Dan W. Peterson Peter-son and staff members met with AEA representatives and discussed dis-cussed the 1967-68 financial outlook out-look Tuesday, April 11. The atmosphere, though somewhat pessimistic, was very cordial. Early action was felt desirable by all concerned. Mr. Chipman pointed out the fact that in many areas such as teacher load, teacher salary, cost of operation of plant, fixed charges, charg-es, etc. Alpine was at or near the state average. However, the local district operates at a definite def-inite disadvantage in such specific speci-fic areas as per capita wealth pei child where Jordan District's high of $10,114.00 and the state average of $5,625.00 compare to Alpine's $4,999, or in administration adminis-tration costs where Alpine rates thirty-ninth among the 40 districts, dis-tricts, or in total current expense per child where again Alpine rates thirty-ninth. Dean T. Worlton, director of pupil personnel, discussed for the board's interest the first semester marks of BYU fresh-men fresh-men who graduated from the Alpine District. The local freshmen fresh-men wlft a combined grade-point average of 2.6 were well above the school average score. Upon the recommendation of the administrative staff, the board approved the following for 1967-68 sabbatical leave: Ver-nene Ver-nene Archibald, Lehl Jr. High; Paul Mortensen, Am. Fork Jr. High; NeilChristensen, PI. Grove Jr. High; and Nina Clegg, Windsor Wind-sor Elementary. Upon the recommendation of Assistant Superintendent Quinn A. Hatch, the following personnel person-nel charges were made. Mary Bell Norris was recommended for employment, and Sharon Presset terminated her position. May 1 was the effective date of the agreement. The fishing stamps will have an effective date of January 1 to December 31 of each year. Under terms of the new agreement, agree-ment, a Utah resident will be able to fish in the Arizona portion por-tion of Lake Powell with his Utah license and a $1 Arizona stamp.
