Early in the game the Bulldogs Bull-dogs couldn't seem to get going, go-ing, however, everything was coming up roses for the Cavemen Cave-men as they turned the breaks Into scores, Roy Ferguson returned the o-pening o-pening kickoff from the nine-yard line to the Cavemen's 31. Randy Taylor then passed to end Richard Rich-ard Nelson for 15 and Roy went up the middle for three. Randy made two fine passes to Rick Ellison and Bucky Piatt. He made two good moves for the touch-dowifscore touch-dowifscore for A F. 6-0. Provo's Mike Fowler returned the ensuing kickoff out to the 34. Provo's second play with Vaughn Lewis putting a good rush on Fol-ster Fol-ster who was attempting a pass, failed. Roy Ferguson leaped high' Into the air to steal the ball from Provo'sSteve Dickson, running run-ning all they way to the end zone for a 40 yard touchdown making the score f 12-0 for the Cavemen. Again after the kickoff, Provo's Pro-vo's first play for the line of scrimmage resulted In another Cavemen score as Gordon Williams, Wil-liams, A. F. guard, recovered a fumble on Provo's 25-yard line. A Taylor to Piatt pass was good for a first down on the 15, fullback Vaughn Lewis scrambled up the middle to the four. Ferguson Fer-guson banged for two more and Randy scored on a bootleg as Roy's placement was good. The score was now 19-0 with seven minutes and 24 seconds remain iing in the first quarter. ' From here 'on until the end of the game the fans on hand Were In for a terrific football game. After the kickoff with Steve Hunter running well, Provo moved down the field from their own 23 to A. F.'s ten where it looked like American Fork's defense was going to stop the march. Rick Ellison came up to stop Hunter for a loss. Evan Miner Mi-ner picked up five yards and Vaughn Lewis stopped Hunter for another two yards loss. With a fourth down and nine yards to go, Folster threw the first of many wobbley passes, this one to fullback Terry Shipman for the score. The game then seemed to move more toward Provo's favor. Doug Oldroyd returned the kickoff out to the 26-yard marker as the first quarter came to a close. American Fork continued upfield with Kent Gurney, Low Hunsaker and Gordon Williams providing the key blocks along the way. A pitch out from Taylor Tay-lor to Ferguson who then passed to Piatt on Provo's ten was the big ground gainer. Fullback Lewis then went the final yards to the goal and the score mounted mount-ed to 25-7. Folster, with 30 seconds until half time again lofted a very wobble pass to Kirk Ford for a touchdown. Score at halftime was American Fork, 25, and Provo, 14. After the third period opener, Provo's Steve Dickson returned the kickoff out to the 25. A clipping clip-ping penalty moved the ball back to the 12, when on the first play, Caveman Vaughn Lewis recovered re-covered the ball on a fumble. Here to me was the turning point in the ball game. As American Fork failed to score on this very good break, a penalty moved the ball back to the 20. On an Incomplete Incom-plete pass, Ferguson went up the middle for nine to the 11. Another Incomplete pass and Provo took over marching all the way downfield for the score trimming A' F.'s lead to four points. From American Fork's 20, Cavemen Lewis, Ferguson and Taylor ran the ball back out to Provo's 43. Then Randy found Piatt with a good pass as Bucky was forced out on the four. Ferg and Lewis moved the ball to the one-yard line as the fourth quarter quar-ter started. Ron Heaps, A. F.'s fine center busted through the line to block the point after attempt. at-tempt. The only one Provo failed to make In six attempts was this one. American Fork, with Oldroyd, Lewis, and Ferguson running very good at this point, of the game, headed for a score, moving mov-ing down field from their own 30 to Provo's 19 when with a first down, an old Injury Randy Taylor received in a game with Sprlngville cropped up and Taylor Tay-lor limped oft the field. Two plays later and Provo recovered n fiimVkla m that nam 91 rr ti ing the ball down the field to score their thirty-fourth point, and they took the lead with three minutes and 17 seconds left to play. Then again after receiving the kickoff, a play that American Fork has used many times for the loLg gain backfield, Taylor tossed to Ferguson who then passed downfield. This was the culprit as a Provo defender came up to hit Ferg causing a fumble which Jerry Sorenson recovered on American Fork's 17. After three trips with fourth and nine to go, Provo's Folster loftedH another pass into the air with American Fork's defense hitting the ball away and Into the air. Provo's Ford made a very good catch as the ball game came to an end, with American Fork, 31, Provo, 41. Moron-That which in winter women wouldn't have so many colds if they put.
