Show Orem Plans Winterfest Of Varied Events Nov. 23 A feast of varied activities for Orem's second annual WINTERFEST WIN-TERFEST on Nov. 23 was announced an-nounced recently, covering events running from the morning morn-ing throughout the day and into the early evening. Activities will range from the opening breakfast, the arrival of Santa Claus, a parade, an outdoor recreation show at two locations, drawings for hundreds of valuable prizes, and the appearance of Santa Claus, along with Miss Orem, at various var-ious times and events. The day long WINTERFEST will be climaxed with the turning turn-ing on of new Christmas lighting and live Nativity scene at the Orem City Center in the evening. even-ing. Events begin at 9:30 a.m. with a breakfast for invited dignitaries, dignitar-ies, including Gov. Calvin L. Rampton, in the multi-purpose room of the Orem City Center. Following the breakfast and short program, cars and drivers will be waiting to take the visitors to the parade line up at 4th North and State Street. The parade will start at 11 a.m. at 4th North at the K-Mart Store, proceeding on a 16 block route south on State Street to the University Mall parking lot. Before the parade, Santa Claus will arrive at 9:45 at the University Mall with candy for the children. He will then make appearances with Miss Orem throughout the day at various events. All day long, there will be outdoor recreation shows at the Mountain Shadows shopping area ar-ea at East Center and State Street, and at the Albertson's shopping area at West Center and State Street. These shows will feature all types of recreation vehicles and equipment, including campers, boats, trailers, cycles and snowmobiles. snow-mobiles. These shows will be open all day long. Drawings for hundreds of valuable prizes that have been donated by Orem merchants will be held during the day. The schedule for the drawings, which will be done by Santa Claus and Miss Orem (Janet Christopher), will be as follows: To be eligible for the drawings, draw-ings, residents must clip and fill out one of the coupons that will be published in Utah County newspapers and placed in Orem stores in about two weeks. Boxes for deposit of the coupons will be placed in Orem stores. These will be picked up the day before Thanksgiving. The first drawing will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Grand Central Store; at 1 p.m., at the K Mart store; 2 p.m., at Albertsons; 3 p.m. at the University Mall; 4 p.m. at Mountain Shadows, and 5 p.m., at Wolfe's Sporting Goods. The WINTERFEST program will be climaxed at 6 p.m. by the turning on of the new Christmas lighting and live Nativity scene at the Orem City Center. The Orem High School A Capella Choir will sing before and after the lighting ceremony. Water cooler: Thirst aid kit. Junior High Carnival A Success Students of the American Fork Junior High School enjoyed en-joyed a successful carnival last Friday evening, November 9. The carnival was under the direction dir-ection of Mrs. Harvey Hutchinson Hutchin-son and included a large number numb-er of games. PTA officers reported that bingo was one of the most popular of the activities. Merchants Mer-chants of the community had donated lovely prizes for the bingo game, and PTA officials would like to thank them for the support they gave so willingly.
