Some of the games for the first half have not yt been played and they will have to be made up. The second half session of the League' started July 8th, last Saturday, and all the gamt'd will be played on Thursday at 5 and 7 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m. in the City Ball Park. These games are some of the best and the fellows playing in them would like your support Why Boys Baseball In Our Community Some1 years ago a need was seen for organized activity for boys 9 through 12 years of age. A group of interested people organized a boys baseball league? in an effort to allow our younger young-er people to spend some of their energy in this way. The year was successful except for one thing It left out too many boys desiring to play. The pro gram was expanded and an other lt'ague was created. However, How-ever, there was still talk and complaints that there were too many boys left out and des plte the problems of needed ad' additional adult supervision, fields to play on, money for equipment the two existing leagues expanded further to or ganize minor leagues. This eh' abled the baseball program to allow every boy between the ages of 9 and 12 desiring to play to be' on a baseball team. Many parents know the thrill of watching their boy knock that ball over the fence for a home run. The sport has really caught on and our town has in effect 16 full boys baseball tfcUms at the moment and the play is going fine. In fact, a third Major League with the accompanying Minor League will be organized by May 19,62. Now comes the problem and the comment, "Why do we? do everything for the boys?" The American Fork City Recreation Committee under the direction of Willard Devitt and Mrs. Del-bert Del-bert Chipman organized the Pepperettes, a group of approximately approx-imately 220 girls between the ages of 9 and 13 years who per form marches and drills for their ' favorite team and. the fans. Why Boys Baseball in our com munity? Because a large group of people' made up of sponsors, managers, coaches, - officers, city recreation committee; and. parents know the advantages gained by the boys and girls who participate? in this fine program. What adds to the confusion in this space age is that prophecy prophe-cy gets to be history -before It becomes current news. Herbert Bayard Swope, Jr. i . .. '"' '( '. v , fit J .,x - i .
