Because we feel that there are probably many question,- con-cernlng con-cernlng military service in the minds of parents as well as in the minds of students particularly partic-ularly boys, we at American Fork High have made arrangements arrange-ments with the state selective service office1 to come to American Amer-ican Fork and personally ' explain ex-plain the legal obligations as well as the various opoprtuni-tles opoprtuni-tles that are available in the various branches of the servlc-. servlc-. es. This Is in no way a recruiting recruit-ing mrttlng. We particularly urge 11th and 12th grade boys and their parents to attend. Other interested people are cordially cor-dially Invited. Major Robert Needham, Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Recruiting Station, Fort Douglas: "Regular Military Service1 Ser-vice1 Programs.' IV. Lt. Colonel Richard D. Shea, Deputy for Materiel, Utah Air National Guard, ' "Reserve and National Guard rograms." V. Lt. Colonel R. B. Kreutzer, Professor of v Military Science and Tactics, University of Utah: "R. O. T. C. and Officer Procurement Pro-curement Programs." The mctetlng will be held Monday, December 5 at 7:300 pjn. in the American, Fork Senior Se-nior High School Auditorium. Handicraft Classes To Be Taught The city recreation is sponsoring spon-soring a handicraft class to be taught by Inez McDonald, every ev-ery Saturday at noon. The lessons les-sons will be free of charge but each Individual, is to pay for the materials that are used. The time for the age groups will be as follows: All under 12 years of age from 1 to 3 p.m.; all over 12 from 3 to 5 p.m. Any club or special organiza tion that would like group help can " arrange for special time. The American Fork Group of Alcoholics Anonymous would like to express a deep appre ciation and gratitude to the Utah Power and Light Co. In American Fork, for being so kind and generous in letting them use their building com-v pletely free of any charge for the past seven years. These people have come from all over the county, state and even many other states, who are troubled . with this terrible illness. R. Philips, LCDR, U. S. Navy, of the U. S. S. Nimble. "Enclosed please find a letter let-ter of Commendation written by Commander. W. E. Benbow concerning your son and his gallant actions on the night of August 12, 1960. 1 am forwarding forward-ing a copy of this letter to you because I would like you to share my pride In your son's actions In assisting the U S. S. Exultant during her recent em-ergericy. em-ergericy. "On the night of 12 August, 1960, U. S. S. Nimble was en route Miami, Florida with U. S. S. Exultant (mso-441) - when the latter suffered a serious engine room fire. Men of the Nimble made outstanding contributions con-tributions and assisted In fighting fight-ing the fire. Although five lives were lost these men were the deciding factor - In preventing loss of the ship. "1 find It difficult to express my feelings concerning the fine efforts of your son during this emergency. The best word that I can find to describe him is "Gallant" for this word en compasses more than mere courage and correct action. To me it connotes actions based upon a man's sincere desire to help his fellow man in a dire need, regardless of cost. Believe me, during the night of 12 August, Aug-ust, that spirit of gallantry was present In your son's actions, "Please share with me the pride I have in this ship and in your son as a member of it's crew. Dunk- ley Jr., and daughter and son, Melonle, and Jeffery, spent Thanksgiving with Mr. and Mrs. Lynn, M. John in Mountain Home, Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. D. Clark Con- der of Bishop, Calif, and their son Jerry with his lovely bride, the former Shirley Ann Willis, of Ventura, Calif., have been visiting with Clark's parents, the Will Conders and families of American Fork, and Reah's mother, Mrs. J. W., Gillman and families of Orem and Pleasant Grove and Bob Aus tin of American Fork. The Gillman's also had sev eral parties for the visitors. Jerry is a senior statistician for the North American Aviation Avia-tion Co. In California. The young couple are residing In Inglewood. The group returned to their homes last Sunday. Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter B. Devey foe Thanksgiving were Mr. and Mrs. Harold M. Creer and family, fam-ily, of Spanish Fork. Mr. Creer is the brother of Mrs. Devey. Jerald Ray Pulley, son of John W. Pulley, and son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Walter B. Devey, Dev-ey, stopped over for a two day visit with relatives and friends while on a business trip here. Jerald and Carol, daughter of the Deveys, live in Cleveland, Ohio, where he is Assistant Brand Manager for the Crest Toothpaste Co. Relief Society 1st Ward Relief Society meeting meet-ing will be held Wednesday, December 7, with Visiting Teacher Tea-cher Report meeting to be held at 9:15 ajn. Lyle Grant will deliver the message, and Theology Theol-ogy meeting at 10 a.m., with lesson leader, Arsena Robinson In charge. A nursery win be provided for the children. All ladles are urged to attend. 5th Ward Relief Society will hold their Theology meeting Tuesday, December 6, at 10 a.m. Marie Brown will present the lesson. Bud recently married Paulette Johnston from Charleston, S. C. They plan to have their mar riage solemnized in Salt Lake Temple, when they return to Utah and make their home here in American Fork.
