Phone GS 1-4885 Former resident dies in Colo, following surgery Mrs. Edith Cornelia Todd Jones, 80, former resident of American Fork and aunt of Mrs. Harold Mendenhall, Lehl, died Saturday, April 10, In Pueblo, Pu-eblo, Colorado, hospital following follow-ing surgery. She had been ill about four weeks. Mrs. Jones, whose home was in Hill City, South Dakota, had been spending spend-ing the winter with a daughter daugh-ter at Las Animas. She was born October 20, 1879. She married Harold L. Jones on September 7, 1905, at Hill City. She was a graduate of .the University of Minnesota, and a retired English teacher. She formerly taught at Ameri can Fork and Tooele high schools. She was widely known for her development of the Jones Book-a-Day Tests, designed to broaden broad-en reading habits in junior and senior high school students. She was a member of the Congregational Congre-gational Church, PEO, Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, National Ed ucation Association and other educational associations. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs Alison Glasses, Las Animas, Colo.; Mrs. Frances Fran-ces Young, Berkeley, Calif.; Mrs. Marian Johnston, Hot Springs, South Dakota; one sis ter, Mrs. Alice McCulloch, Los Angeles, Calif.; six grandchild ren; one great-grandchild. Funeral services were con ducted at Hill City on April 12. Interment was in the Hill City Cemetery. Friends of Mrs. Jones are es tablishing an annual English Honor Award at the Hill City High School in her memory, for which contributions are being sent to Kenneth Trapp, Rush-more Rush-more State Bank, Hill ,City South Dakota. Thornton Thorn-ton and daughters, Linda and Debbie, returned home Sunday night from a week's vacation trip which took them to Washington Wash-ington and down the coast to San Francisco, California. En route they visited at Boise, Ida-hp, Ida-hp, ., with Mr Thornton's sister, from there- they traveled to Seattle where they rode the ferry to Bremerton, and then motored down the coast through Oregon and California. They visited friends In Applegate before be-fore returning home by way of Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. Morris J. Smith and three children of Kenne-wick, Kenne-wick, Washington, arrived in American Fork a week ago. While the children visited here with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. LaDrue Varney and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brown, the Smiths flew to Atlantic City to attend a convention.' While In the east they visited in New York, Washington, D. C. and other places of Interest. They then flew back to Utah, and with their children left Sunday for their Washington home.
