Show THE AMERICAN FORK CITIZEN, Thursday, December 20, 1956 Appreciation Expressed by Alpine Stake Primary Association Once again we celebrate the birth of the Savior. May the significance of this beautiful day live in our hearts and bring untold peace and happiness to all. Kindly deeds and love of our friends and neighbors are natural for us at this time of year because we accept the Savior's commandments and give 'freely of our love to others. So at this Christmas time our thoughts turn to those we love and among those are our associates in the Primary organization or-ganization in Alpine Stake who plant a love of the gospel of Jesus Christ in the hearts of "His little ones." Knowing you have .enriched our lives, we are sincerely grateful for your friendship. We treasure our association with you and look forward to another year with its promise of greater achievement achieve-ment through your cooperation and devoted service to the Primary work. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the loyal support you have given us. May our Father's choicest blessings be with you, that peace may be in your hearts and in your homes; that kindness, kind-ness, patience, and love shall increase in your hearts, and that unity may strengthen our ranks during the coming year. As we prepare for the Christmas season, let all our gifts to one another carry with them a reminder of the Father's gift of His only Begotten Son, who in turn gave to us the glorious gift of salvation. Let the pleasures of the season be subordinated to the true spiritual meaning of this greatest of all festivities. the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Roxie A. Richards Fannie S. Shelley recalls with amusement the wedding of his oldest brother James and Margaret Mar-garet Hunter in the winter of 1875, when he was four years old. A wedding supper was prepared for friends, relatives and the Immediate family. The rag carpet car-pet was taken up to prepare for dancing. The one piece orchestra, a fiddler, fid-dler, arrived, and how those old timers could dance. It was my first experience watching danc ers. I looked on in amusement as they swung in quadrilles and exclaimed, "They're all acting crazy." I had Just been "put in pants" so considered myself quite a man. Do you remember how boys were kept in dresses until they were three or four years old, sometimes older? Recreation In those days was generally 'home made' with family gatherings, neighborly visiting and dancing parties. Yearly events which I remember were July Fourth and Pioneer day celebrations, the Scotch party, par-ty, the choir party, Sunday School concerts and Timber Day. Home life 75 years ago was decidedly de-cidedly different from today. Cornmeal and milk breakfasts, bread and milk suppers were of ten the bill of fare. Families were self sustaining with no help from Uncle Sam expected. Al most every family owned its own cow or cows which supplied milk, cream, butter, and sometimes cheese; the garden supplied the vegtables some of which were stored for winter: fruits were dried and stored, and each fam lly did its own butchering. Go ing in debt was banned, and all was advised to live within their income. The world of yesterday was wonderful ! But much more won Friday, Last Day To Call Santa Tomorrow (Friday, December 21) is the last day children of the community and surrounding areas can call North Pole 500 and talk to Santa Claus. Santa will talk to the children In person from 7 to 9 p.m. Many, many children throughout through-out Utah have enjoyed a short visit with Santa and it is expected expect-ed the phone will be ringing many more times, according to Dean Bateman, Junior Chamber of Commerce chairman. Thanks and appreciation got to the manager and operators of the Telephone Company for their whole-hearted support In mak ing this project a success. Don t miss this chance Kid dles, be sure and call Santa Friday.
