Beta Sigma Phi Psl Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met recently at the home of Mrs. Dee Hunter. Following the business bus-iness meeting plans were made for two girls to go to the hospital hospi-tal two nights (usually Tuesday and Thursday) each week to distribute dis-tribute books and magazines to the patients. The girls were assigned as-signed their nights to go which will carry into next fall. Mrs. Byron McFarlane gave the lesson- on antiques after which refreshments were served by the hostess. Junior Arlltra "Quest Night" was the theme ftv the Junior Arlltra meeting Monday evening. Twenty-two members and guests were entertained enter-tained at the home of Mrs. Reece T. Nash. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Inrin Chlpman, Mrs. Thayne Bateman, Mrs. Preston Taylor, Mrs. Dale Burgess and Mrs. Merrill Mer-rill Preston. Mrs. Isaac Brockbank. He will succeed B. M. Jolley. The county Republicans elect ed by acclamation Mr. Gunther, Lehl, who operates Gunther's Sheet Metal Company In Amen can Fork. The county convention approv ed 112 delegates at large to the stat e Republican convention named by districts; and after some discussion named 14 add! tional delegates at large, among whom was Mrs. D. Plans Progressing For Golf Course Plans for the local golf course are developing rapidly, according to Don McCloud, president, and other golf club officers. Thanks to the donation of much time and effort, the early planning stages are finished and as much progress as possible at this time Is being made. Appreciation is expressed to the city council. National Guard, Frank Greenwood, civic clubs and anyone else who assisted in this project. It is hoped by those in charge that it will be possi ble to use the course by next fall. Beta Sigma Phi presented Mr. McCloud with a $50 check last Monday.' It is contributions of this type that will make the golf course possible. Myrtle R Seastrand To Represent A.F. in 'Mother of The Year' Contest , , Mrs. Myrtle R., Seastrand has. been chosen to represent American Ameri-can Fork In the 1950 contest for the "Mother of the Year". She will go Into the Timpanogos District Dis-trict and the winner from the district will go to the state. Federated Fed-erated Womens Clubs of Ameri can Fork are sponsoring her. , Entrants will be Judged on re liglous work, civic activities and their family. Mrs. Seastrand has given 39 years of church service. She has served as MIA president for seven sev-en years, secretary and stake Bee Keeper in the MIA and taught social science and literature in the Relief Society for seven years. She has been the teach er of the Gospel Doctrine Sunday School class for the past 22 years and has had 20 years perfect attendance at-tendance at Sunday School. She was recently awarded the Hon orary Oolden Gleaner award. She has been very active in civic activities having served as a captain In the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for five years, instructor in-structor six years and chairman of the Relic Hall committee for the past four years. She taught school at the Harrington for two years and has written twelve bibeographies. Mrs. Seastrand enjoys many hobbles such as art, china paint ing, drama and composing. She has written several songs and many stones and poems witn which she has won prizes. She has played the lead in several plays and directed numerous ward plays. Alpine Stake To Get New Seminary Building A campaign to raise funds to build a new IDS Seminary for Alpine Stake is taking shape this week. The Seminary, te be built near the proposed new American Fork High School will provide religious training for Latter-day Saint students. The present Seminary Sem-inary will be used for Junior high students. Headed by President Phil D. Jensen, his counselors, Stanley D. Roberts and Homer F. Royle, together with the members of the Stake High Council and the ward bishoprics,: the fund raising rais-ing campaign will 'extend" over a period of about eight weeks. A stake wide banquet to which fund contributors will be Invited, will wind up the drive. The date for the banquet has been tentatively tenta-tively set for Wednesday, April 18th. The initial plans, as announc ed early this week by President Jensen, call for a number of activities. ac-tivities. Foremost will be a drive for Seminary Charter Builders in wheh special Charter Builder Certificates wlll be awarded to individuals and families contributing contri-buting $100 or more to the drive. Details of this plan will be forthcoming forth-coming within a week. For purposes of publicizing the campaign. Relief Society Womea Learn About Meat In Salt Lake City Tour Alpine Stake Relief Society women in charge of home man-aeement man-aeement classes with members of residencies and some stake board members made a tour in Salt Lake City Tuesday to several meat processing plants to become be-come more proficient as teachers. teach-ers. The tour was conducted at the Invitation of the USAC exten sion service under the direction of John Barnard and Jennlev J. Ppulsen. county extension officials. offic-ials. The group was met in Salt Lake by Maurice Taylor, live stock marketing specialist who first took them to the stockyards stock-yards where they witnessed a demonstration on grading of beef, pork and lamb. - The group then went to the Cudahy Packing, plant for a demonstration on the prepara tion of meat for wholesale trade and then to a Safeway market where they saw the cutting and packaging of meat for retail as It comes to the housewife. The last visit was made to the Hotel Utah where Chef Glrard demonstrated the preparation of meat for the table. Included in the group were Mrs. Joseph Hoglund, Mrs. Will lam Oraff, First Ward; Mrs. James 8. Chadwick, Miss Ora Jean Chlpman, Second Ward; Mrs. William R. Evans, Mrs. Ralph McDonald. Allen has been named nam-ed chairman of the 1956 Red Cross fund drive which will be conducted in American Fork, Alpine and Highland. Melvin Kavachevlch, Utah County drive chairman this year and chairman chair-man of the Provo City drive last year, made the announcement of Mr. Allen's appointment. Mr. Allen is . the manager of the American Fork, Lehl and Pleasant Grove exchanges of Mourflain States Telephone and Telegraph Company and an active ac-tive civic worker. The drive will open March 1.
