Fourth annual sewing contest sponsored by the National Nation-al Woolgrowers auxiliary was discussed dis-cussed and details will be planned plan-ned at a later meeting. Election of officers for the coming season took place with Mrs. Emery Nlcholes being elected president; Mrs. Stanley Chipman, vice president, pres-ident, and Mrs. Earl Ferguson. Presidents Council Presidents Council will meet Friday night, Oct. 27, at 7:45 p m. at the home of Mrs. R. W. Clark, chairman. The purpose of the meeting Is to hear the yearly reports and elect officers for the coming year. Junior Arlitra Mrs. William C. Ashby and Mrs. Kenneth McDonald were guests of Arlitra Guild Monday night when they discussed the advantages ad-vantages of nursery schools. Mrs. Dean S. Garden Club Lehi Garden club will be host to the district garden clubs of Utah and Wasatch counties in the Lehi high school auditorium Saturday, October 28, at 1:30 p. m., it was announced today by Mrs. C. P. Jensen, president of the American Fork Garden club and assistant regional director. The general public is invited. Ernest Reimschiissel, Provo, will discuss "Fall Planting and the Care of Plants"; "Soils" will be the subject of a talk by M. D. Wallace, Prov,o, and Milda Patten, Pat-ten, Orem, will discuss "Flower Arrangements." Refreshments will be served. Dance Set Opening night for the Dance Set took the form of a dinner-dance dinner-dance in the Third ward amusement amuse-ment hall Wednesday night of last week. A Halloween theme was carried out with colorful chrysanthemums arranged in pumpkin bowls, and pyracantha and orange tapers completing the table decorations. Favors were Halloween clowns for the gentlemen and gaily decorated miniature pumpkins for the ladies. Roy Griffin was master of ceremonies and presenting Droeram numbers were Dick Carter and his partner, Lehi;P Mrs. E. Vernon Holindrake and Melvin Beckstrand, accompanied by Mrs. Raymond T. Bailey, and Werner Jung, Grace was offered offer-ed by J. Stanley Peters. LaTona Musk Werner Jung, recently arrived in American v Fork from Cfer- many, was the guest artist for La Tona Music club when the first meeting of the season was held Wednesday at the home of Mrs. A. Ralph Smith, president. He played German folk song, classic and semiclassical, as well as some American music and hymns. Mr. Jung, who with his wife were brought to Utah by L. R. BOY SCOUTS HEAR LECTURE ON . FIRE PREVENTION Alpine Stake Boy Scouts were the guests of the American Fork Volunteer fire department Tues day night. Roy Griffin, volunteer fireman. talked to the group. He gave statistics on the number of deaths and amount of property lost through lire. They were also told ways to prevent fires. The group of about 75 boys watched a demonstration given by Warren Anderson, also a volunteer vol-unteer fireman. Rusick; Employee of 15 Years RETIRING BISHOPRIC HONORED BY 6TH WARD MEMBERS I Sixth ward's retiring bishopric was honored last Thursday In the Alpine Stake Tabernacle. A ceremony was held with all of the auxiliaries taking part. President Delbert Chipman opened open-ed with prayer and then fourteen four-teen roses Vere presented. As each rose was placed in a vase, a token of appreciation was spoken. Words of praise were given by President Phil D. Jensen and Bishop Melvin Grant. Joan Ellison Elli-son played a violin solo and later on in the evening a duet was sung by Kenneth Robinson and Mrs. Stanford Wild. Each member of the outgoing bishopric, Stewart A. Durrant, Ethan Peay, Wilbur Harding and Bext Tlmpson, received a lifetime, life-time, pen and pencil set. President Burgess closed the meeting with., prayer and the group retired to the basement. ' The Sixth ward Boy Scout band played two numbers and several songs were sung by the stake high council quartet. Rusick, resident of American Fork for the past four years has completed fifteen years service with the Standard Oil Company of California. 'With three other veteran em ployees Mr. Rusick was honored at a luncheon Wednesday In the Presidents Room of Hotel Utah. Mr. W. L. Fields, district manager of the Salt Lake Office, made the presentation. Mr. Rusick began his services with the company at his home town of El Segundo, California. For eighteen months he worked on Bahein Island in the Arabian oil fields. He resides at 278 West First South In American Fork, with his wife, Lois Blnns Rusick, and their three children. Do You Know!
