By Leola May Stop Unnecessary Fires! During this hot dry season, fires are started very easily, Every year destructive fires are caused through thoughtlessness and carelessness. When we look around and see the dry weeds and grass, we long to get rid of it. If there are small patches here and there, we think how easy It would be to just set fire to It. We must remember, however, that even with plenty of water around, the smallest of fires can get out of control. . ., . Cut down, these ' unattractive weeds and pile them in a safe place. Only then is it safe to set fire to them. As an added safety precaution have water handy at all times. Do your part to put a stop to unnecessary fires here at home. Pleasant Orove's Jaycee organ ization want to know how many uman lives it takes to pay a state highway engineer's wages come to Pleasant Grove and tudy the hazardous condition of the Highway 91 between the south Pleasant Grove city limits and American Fork. Last spring, Pleasant Grove Jaycee's erected' signs at the dangerous intersection at the south end of town. These signs were removed by parties un known and since that time hun dreds of dollars worth of proper ty damage has been caused at this intersection. It is the contention con-tention of everyone that the highway between the two towns a hazard. The road surfacing black and it is almost Imposs ible to see a pedestrian or a per son cn a bicycle. The highway, which was no doubt meant for two-lane highway, is being used as a eur-lane road and as consequence there are a lot of close shaves. Do we have to wait until we have more people killed before something is done? In our town a human life is worth more than can be measured in money. We don't pay anyone's wages in blood. The time to correct the cause is new. Dickerson Reunion Held at Provo Mon. It seems that heredity is a factor of con slderable Importance, since It Is common to find that In a large number of instance ttie parents or grandparents suffered from the same and associated condi tions. There are valves placed at intervals in-tervals along the Inner walls of these veins whose purpose it Is to prevent backflow and keep the blood moving upwards toward to-ward the heart. It is when these valves are congenitally weak or break down from undue strain, that the blood is permitted to settle down tnto the legs, thus causing locally increased pres sure and resulting in dilatation and tortuosity, which we know as varicosities, or varicose veins. Most frequently easy fatigue, progressing to actual pain, is the first symptom, coming on two or three hours after the person is ud and on her feet. This dis comfort may be at -first only a dull, heavy, aching sensation of the legs. However, after a time the pain may become acutely sharo and stabbing in character, finally forcing the person to lie down and elevate tne exiremi ties. Frequently the individual suspects, and rightruliy so, that weak arches of the foot are a contributing cause of their dis comfort. It is also found that the use of high-heeled shoes has a tendency to aggravate the con-dition. Swelling of the lower .legs, especially around the ankles, is next in frequency ana may oe confused, with heart or., kidney disease.- This "swelling, when due to" varicosities, is more of a full and.bxa.wny type which does not pit so readily upoir pressure. In caseT of TohgefHuTatlotr there is generally discoloration of the skin, due to the disintegration of the stagnated blood cells. - If the swelling and pain appear ap-pear to localize in the vicinity of a Joint, arthritis is frequently suspected, and many of these persons have tried various arthritic arth-ritic remedies with poor success. Varicose ulcers appear In about 50 of all varicosities of the lower extremities. They are generally gen-erally near the ankle or slightly above and usually precipitated by such minor injuries as a scratch, bruise, or Insect bite. Itls obvious that any measure which tends to increase the circulation cir-culation and efficiency of the bloodstream In the legs Is to be desired. Proper footgear, elastic bandages and frequent elevation of the part is beneficial. ; Questions pertaining tq any health problem may be answered in this column or directly to you by enclosing a self-addressed, stamped envelope. - - Descendants of William Ed ward and Ann Dickerson held family reunion in the Provo City Park Monday, July 24. "Razor Blade" shares, such as tha on being displayed by the engineer above, are used until they are dull and then discarded. Extensive tests revealed the new shares can save the farmer as much as $10 per 100 plowed acres as compared with the cost of conventional snare which must be resharpened. The) plow also has new type bottoms that can be used in hundreds of types of soils, the company said. A replaceable replace-able thin piece greatly increases the life of the moldboard.
