Funeral services for Mrs. Harry Payne (Cora Violet Phillips), 56. were conducted Saturday at one o'clock in the Highland ward chapel under the direction of Bishop LeOrand Adamson. Mrs. Payne died Aug. 16, following an Illness of several months. Following the Invocation by Afton D. Alger, Orem, the Highland High-land Singing Mothers sang "Lead Kindly Light." The fine characteristics of the deceased, her faithfulness to her church, and her appreciation for all who offered help were told by Bishop Adamson, the first speaker. speak-er. James T. Miller, who had been Instrumental in converting her to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, spoke of his appreciation of the family, and Leland May, an Alpine stake missionary, discussed the resur rection and continuity of family life as taught by the Saviour. Between speakers a male quar tette, Mr. May, Lawrence Day, Henry Greenland and William T. Hyde III, sang "Oh My Father, with Mrs. Greenland as accom panist. "My Peace I Leave With You" was the closing number by the Singing Mothers. The benediction was pronounc ed by Leonard E. Hyde, a mem ber of the ward bishopric, and the grave in the Orem cemetery was dedicated by J. Reed Burge ner, bishop of the Vermont ward in the Orem stake. Pallbearers were Warren Lord, Orem, Norman Wrlde, Pleasant Grove; Wayne Day, LaMar Hea- ley. Vernon and Hubert Green land, Highland. President Edward WJ Burgess, former Alpine ward bishop, was in charge. Mrs. Rowlands Row-lands died Aug. 19 in a Salt Lake hospital following a heart attack. at-tack. Patriarch Joseph H. Storrs commented on the talent and ef fort the deceased had expended in the early days of Alpine stake at the turn of the century, and then discussed the resurrection. President Burgess spoke of Christ as the first fruits of the resurrec tion, what Is known of life here after, and eternal family unity. Mrs. Joseph F. Marsh, Salt Lake City, read a biographical sketch and Mrs. Lynn Taylor (Celestla Johnson), a niece, read poems written by the deceased i Music included two vocal duets. "I'm a Pilgrim" and "Come Unto Me," by Norma Dyer tfnd Joseph Ahlander, accompanied by Eva Davis, and two vocal solos "Hark Hark. Mv Soul" and "The Lord's Prayer" by Mrs. McSherry, ac companled by Mrs. Wendell Kirk- pa trick. The Invocation was offered by Earl M. Devey, H. A. Smith, Alpine Al-pine ward bishop, pronounced the benediction, and the grave in the American Fork cemetery was dedicated by Royal Bateman Mrs. Rowlands was born Feb 17, 1866, In Alpine, the daughter of Ephralm and Rhoda Y. Mc Nichols Nash. She received her education at the Brigham acade my and for many years was a teacher in Alpine, American Fork and Provo. She was an accom pllshed pianist, vocalist, as well as a writer of both prose and poetry. She filled two missions in California for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ronald Bailey, who was Injured in a mine accident a few weeks ago, is back in the hospital for treatment. SOMETHING TO CROW ABOUT A seven nound one ounce bun dle of masculinity arrived at the hospital Monday for Mr. ana Mrs. Ray C. Nelson. They have not yet decided on a name but Dennis, Den-nis, now almost three, is glad the baby is a boy. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Nelson and Mr. and Mrs. Henry McNeill. There are also four maternal greatgrandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. McNeill, Blue Water, N. M., and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Pettit, Price.
