Continued High Meat Prices Predicted For Year Continued high meat bills for the housewife and continued good livestock prices for the producer pro-ducer were predicted today by Morris H. Taylor, Utah State Agricultural Ag-ricultural College Extension cattle cat-tle marketing specialist. With Increasing population, high level of employment, high consumer income, short supplies of meat animals, particularly cattle and sheep, and lower feed prices, the outlook for the livestock live-stock producer is very favorable, Mr. Taylor said. With sheep and cattle numbers still on the decline, meat supplies will not Increase materially untu the 1949 spring pig crop comes to market a year from now. That will mean continued high de mand for, meat, with resultant high prices, unless employment slumns. causing a decrease in consumer purchasing power. Even if something should hap pen to cut down the demand which isn't likely livestock pro ducers are still assured of high prices: the secretary pf agricul ture has been authorized by Con gress to support Bvestock prices up to 90 percent parity. With huge wheat and corn crops and less livestock to eat it producers are likely to get cheap er feed. This decrease in live stock production cost will probably prob-ably now mean lower prices to the consumer, however, because of the continued high demand for meat While all these factors are fav orable for the livestock producer, feeders who buy their stock should move cautiously because prices of feeder stock are -high, thejextenslonspectallst.warns..
