FORK Taking Care, of Ourselves Constant Problem We all have a certain pride In taking care of ourselves. We like to think that we earn our own living and are not dependent upon up-on other people for the essentials of life. - , ! Yet there are some problems which are too big for any Individual Indi-vidual to solve. They must be solved through the joint action of groups within the community or by the community as a whole. An example of how a community acts to protect all its people is the fire department. An individual indi-vidual would have difficulty protecting his home if it caught on fire, but every community has a fire department to serve all the people. Another problem which calls for action by all the people is the control of tuberculosis, a disease which kills 53.000 Americans a year kills at the rate of one per son every 10 minutes. It is the seventh cause of death among the population as a whole, the fourth cause of all deaths among Negroes. Tuberculosis is not inherited. It is a disease which well people catch from people who have ac tlve tuberculosis. It is a serious disease but It can be cured and its spread can be prevented. ' Here in our community we have an organization which is fighting tuberculosis. This la the American Fork Tuberculosis Committee. Supported entirely by the sale of Christmas Seals, this committee is working throughout the year to protect everybody in the community from tuberculosis We can help the tuberculosis association in Its fight by buying and using Christmas Seals.' In cooperating with the tuberculosis association and in' buying Christmas Seals, we are taking care of ourselves. We are helping protect ourselves from tuberculosis. The annual Christmas Seal sale will begin Immediately in American Fork with school children chil-dren having the seals. The sup port of the public is asked. National tourist agencies ag-encies concur in the oDinion that the tourist business will be good next year because bis industrialists have made statements state-ments to the effect that there will be full' employment thru-out thru-out the nation next season. A pertinent fact regarding next reason's outlook Is a nuo- tatlon from an Important tra vel authority who says: "you must remember that the back log of tourist business from ihe war-yarhaa been -exhausted, we will again be catering to people who are looking for the greatest value for their dollar."
