Everton LAFF-A-DAY i " U , A ? punch wh j We have been thinking how peculiar people are. They are always al-ways looking for an easier way to do things. An easier way to cook beans, to raise children, to send Christmas greetings, to plant gardens, these and a thousand thous-and other-easier ways occupy the attention of a great part of the human race. There are always those who are seeking an easier way to heaven. History tells of those who conceived con-ceived the notion that they could be forgiven of their sins by paying pay-ing a sum of money to the priest. Then there came others who per-sudHed per-sudHed themselves that all of Christ's teachings about righteous righte-ous living might be disregarded as unimportant. All, that mattered mat-tered In their minds was a word of mouth confession that Jesus Is the Christ. Even In our day there are those who have found an easy way to get into the celestial kingdom, at least they think they have. They figure that as one may not enter the celestial kingdom, or highest glory In the world of spirits without with-out certain church ordinances, without giving consideration to the lives of men, they are anxious anx-ious to have these ordinances performed. The mother wants her boy baptized and she proceeds pro-ceeds to have it done without giving consideration to the faith of the boy, without thinking about his wishes, and without taking the time during his earlier life to teach him the truths of the gospel. She seems to think she has done her full Notice ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS duty when she has the boy baptized bap-tized even though he objects to the whole thing. t " She wants her daughter to be married In the temple and without with-out considering the daughter's faith or lack of faith she insists on It, thinking of course that this Is one step on the road to the celestial kingdom. A man dies who has taken no interest In religion. He has had ample opportunity op-portunity to accept the gospel, but has not done so. Up to the time of his death he showed not the lightest concern about the salvatloh of his soul. Hardly Is the funeral over before someone wants to Te baptized for him so that he mav enter Into the high est glory In the world to come. -Tne scriptures are full of exhortations ex-hortations to good works. Every prophet who has told us of the final judgment nas saia ine aeaa are to be Judged according . to their works. The Lord has said they who are not valiant in the testimony of Jesus" wjll be In a lesser kingdom where they may enter without baptism. We call your attention to the 7 section of the Doctrine and Covenents verse 25. In telling of those who are to be in 'the terrestrial or second glory he says (These are they . . . who received not the testimony of Jesus In the flesh but afterward received it." From this we see that even those who accept the gospel In the spirit world are not to be exalted unless their earth life merits it. We are not setting ourselves up to the Judge of any man, and; we are sorry to see any one act In such a way that he may not enter the celestial kingdom. It does seem to us however, that the evidence Is pretty strongly against there being any easy way to get Into the highest glory In heaven. Those who enter there must be valiant In the cause of Christ during their earth life. There is no other way.' Those mhn have not had the onDort uni ty to hear the truth about dhrist may enter into His glory only 11 their life upon the earth shows that they would have accepted the gospel if they had had the opportunity.
