Ariel E. Hansen, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. West of American Fork Canyon, graduated August 14 from the Maritime Officers Training School at Alameda, Cal. He Is now spending a two weeks leave with his wife and children In Long Beach, Cal. First Lieutenant and Mrs. Alvln DeLong will leave Saturday to return re-turn to Camp Campbell, Ky., after enjoying a 15 days leave with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. DeLong of Collins ton and Mr,, and Mrs. Ellis R. Terry of American Fork. Mrs.' Ersal S. Fagan received word from her husband Tuesday morning that he is somewhere In France. He has been in England since the early part of June. T5 Fagan said some of the cities through which they passed were still smoking from the fires left by the Germans and in others the enemy left from one side of the city as the Allies came In the other. Pfc. James Milton Beck, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Janlus Beck of Alpine, is home on a IS day furlough from Stlnson Field, San Antonio, Texas, where he Is stationed sta-tioned with a service group. AS Pat R. Bird has been transferred from Lowry Field, Colo., to Tyndall, Florida. Pvt. Verdun Monsonr son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Monson, arrived ar-rived at Camp Wolters, Texas, last week. Before leaving for army duty a family party was held In his honor, pinner and games were enjoyed and the honored guest presented with suitable gifts. Pvt. Monson 's wife and three year old daughter, Sonji, are making their home with his parents during his absence. Darwin R. Miner, son of 'Mrs. Llllle Miner, who has been sta tioned at Amarlllo, Texas, for the past two months, has passed his first tests and is now an air cadet. He has two brothers in the service, Cpl. Leo E. Miner who Is In Italy and Ivan L. Miner who Is stationed at Farragut, Idaho. I just can't explain how happy I was. It is the first I have received, but I guess now the rest will come regularly. It was dated June 9, 1944. 1 enjoyed every bit of the news, even the advs. There Is not much I can say only I am well and feel fine. Give my best wishes to all the boys If It is possible. Hansen, that he was surprised sur-prised In looking around in a classroom one day to see Roger Greenwood. They are enjoying their work together at the West Coast Sound School at San Diego, Cal. William R. Ellison, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ellison, has written home that he Is recuperating in a New Guinea hospital from an appendectomy performed July 30. Bill said he would be held In the hospital a month before being be-ing allowed to return to duty. He has recently been advanced to the rank of staff sergeant. ' Clayton O. Hail 8 1c, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Hall, has been home on furlough after a few months In the Pacific area. He left Tuesdayo return to a west coast port toN-eport for duty. James D. Hall, another son of the above' couple, has been advanced ad-vanced to seaman first .class, he has informed his parents. He Is On the LST ship running between Britain and Francs.
