Sgt. Withers has been In the service 22 months and is now with an armed Infantry battalion. He is wearing medals for Good Conduct, expert rifleman rifle-man and machine gunner. On August 5 at the home of their grandfather in Riverton a' family party was held honoring Sgt. Withers and his older brother, broth-er, Calvin, who was inducted August 12. The servicemen were presented with gifts from the assembled as-sembled relatives. An-dreason, An-dreason, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Andreason, is with -the personnel accounting staff headquarters, which is directed by Technical Sergeant George E. Remmel of Great Falls .Montana. The work of the unit is to keep an accurate record of the position, availiblll-ty, availiblll-ty, and other characteristics of every man in the area. Corp. Andreason, a graduate of the American Fork high school in 1936, was employed by the Utah Copper Co., Garfield, prior to Induction In-duction September 1, 1942. His overseas duties began April 22, 1943, and he is entitled to wear the Good Conduct medal and the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon. Dean Gordon, son of Mrs. G. H. Gordon, Is at Fort Douglas awaiting await-ing assignment in the. Army. He and Mrs. Gordon, the former Mary Joe West of Pleasant Grove, have been living in Long Beach where he was employed by the Shell Oil company. Ensign Sidney M. Beck will graduate from the Naval Reserve Officers Indoctrination School at Tuscon, Arizona, with the 21st battalion of this "Battle Ship of the Desert," August 15, 1944, after completing 60 days of training In seamanship, navigation, ordnance, ord-nance, and communications, the Eleventh Naval District announced announc-ed today. Designed to acquaint newly appointed ap-pointed officers with every possible possi-ble element in Navy life, the school, under the command of Captain M. E. Cheadle, USN (Ret.) specializes In visual training, train-ing, teaching student officers naval subjects by actual practice, in addition to studying primary text books. He will now proceed to an Army Advanced flying school, at Williams Field, Arizona, where he will take the. final steps toward attainment bf his silver pilot wings. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Atwood, 1773 South Third East street, Salt Lake City. He graduated from Pleasant Grove high school in 1942. Major Robert T. Gilchrist will leave Sunday for Douglas, Arizona, Arizo-na, after a ten day furlough spent in Lehi with relatives, and in American Fork with his wife and family who are living here during dur-ing hs absence in the service. Donald E. Walker, brother of Mrs. Karl Andreason, left the first of the week from Fort Douglas Doug-las for army assignment. Pvt. Walker has made his home in American Fork for the past three years. He has a brother, Pfc Blaine Walker who has been In the sendee two years and who Is now with a air force ground crew at a field in Louisiana. |
