There is no need to stress the hard work part of the formula. It is the basic ingredient of farming. But "the intelligent use of labor-saving labor-saving equipment" is fully as important, and often neglected. Electricity is the key to successful farming. It lights. It cooks. It cools. It draws water tnd pumps it wherever needed. It saws wood. It fills the silo. It incubates eggs and broods chicks. It milks the cows and cools the milk. It hoists hay. It grades fruit. Electricity does these things not only better and quicker than by any other method it also does these tasks more economically. Chrts-tensen Chrts-tensen of the Education Committee of the Utah Traffic Safety Council is deserving of consideration of every thinking citizen of Utah. This year Utah- has. the golden opportunity to establish a good safety record and the cooperation of every person interested In traffic safety is earnestly solicited. The appeal follows: Citizens of Utah: Traffic Safety is the No. 1 Problem Prob-lem of Every State and City. Let us work unitedly to maintain main-tain a satisfactory safety record In Utah for 1941. 80 far this year we have done reasonably wen, occupying occupy-ing the favorable position of a slight decrease in traffic fatalities under last year, whereas for the nation as a whole, traffic deaths have Increased In-creased approximately 16 per cent For the past seven yean an average aver-age of eighty-seven lives have been lost on Utah Highways during the months of June, July and August Our average for the months of March, April and May during that period is thirty-four fatalities. A comparison of these figures empha sizes the critical days ahead I Records show that hazards to children are greatest during the va cation period. ' Summertime is the danger time for our children) The Independence Day and Pioneer Pio-neer Day holidays annually, add many tragedies to the ever mount ing summer accident toll Results we have obtained are due to the fine cooperation of public officials, the press, radio, clubs. churches and motoring public. This cooperation and energetic work must be continued if we are to show prog, ress and improve our position in safety, thereby saving lives and protecting property. We know that 1941 is going to be a difficult year to hold highway accidents ac-cidents in check. Travel la mounting mount-ing by leaps and bounds. New plants, new training camps for our soldiers, and other defense activities are bringing about tremendous concentrations con-centrations of people and machines, Not only Is the Job of stopping accidents on the streets and highways high-ways a vital part of defense activities, activ-ities, but it Is made more difficult by these very activities. In these days when our minds are filled with the horrors of war, it is well to remember that the traffic death toll for the last two years greatly" exceeds the American dead in the World War, and that traffic deaths In the last seven years have been greater than the total number of Americans killed In all the wars in the nation's history! There Is no rhyme or reason to this wholesale slaughter. It must be stopped! The Utah Traffic Safety Council asks that you urge public officials to- -do everyttitag--possible- to- -pr' vent; traffic accidents;. M, y$ur com munity and also that you as lndl vlduala walk and drive so that acd dents Just can't happen! GEORGE A CHRISTENSEN.
