Strong and family of Magna are- spending the week here at the Leo T. Shelley home. The deal was completed during the week whereby Mrs. Nora Van Wagoner Wagon-er of Midway became the owner of the Herbert Street home in the Second ward. Mrs. Van Wagoner and son, will moved here in the near future. A farewell testimonial was held In the Provo Fourth ward chapel Sunday night for James Martin, son of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Martin, formerly of this city. The young man left for the mission home in Salt Lake Monday and on July 12th leaves for the German-Austrian mission. An trice Larsen and daughter. Miss Thelma Larson, were guests in Provo Pro-vo July 4th of Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum Heiselt. Mr. and Mrs. Dole Briggs of Elko, Nevada, visited In American Fork from Friday until Monday with Mrs. Briggs' mother, Mrs. Jennie Strong. Mrs. William R. Beach of Salt Lake, spent several days here visiting visit-ing with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Searle and their new baby. Mrs. Byron Crookston leaves Sunday Sun-day for Los Angeles, where she will spend a few days visiting with her daughter. Miss Lenore Crooks torn On July 12th Mrs. Crookston and her daughter and Mrs. Lenore King Elliot of that city will sail on the steamship "Lurllne" for Honolulu where for one month they will vacation va-cation on the Hawaiian Islands. During Mrs. Crookston's absence from her beauty shop here, Miss Jessie Neville of Provo, an experienced exper-ienced operator, will be In charge. Jack Jacklin, small son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Jacklin, celebrated cele-brated his fifth birthday Tuesday afternoon by having fifteen friends come to his birthday party. The little folks enjoyed ouof-door games followed by tasty refreshments. Mrs. Walter Strange Is spending a few days this week in American Fork. Mr. and Mrs. Strange are now located In Castle Rock, Color ado, having but recently returned from Columbus, Ohio, where they spent the winter and spring. The party given on the First ward chapel grounds Thursday night of last week, when the adults of the ward entertained all the young members was a most successful af fair. The social was one of the budget entertainment numbers, and was well attended and enjoyed by alL A program was given followed by stunts and games after which wabermellon was served. Mr. and Mrs. Heber Barratt, Mrs. Stanley Barratt and Miss Melba Barratt spent July 4th In Provo with Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Morgan. Joseph Arthur Forbes of Alpine sustained a badly burned left hand last Saturday while working on the road In American Fork canyon. In some manner a quantity of hot tar was poured over Mr. Forbes hand Inflicting a painful burn. Kenneth Lewis, 8, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Lewis of Alpine was brought to the office of O. S. Richards Rich-ards Sunday suffering from a severely se-verely injured left hand. The child had been playing with a 38 caliber revolver which was loaded. He was shot through the hand. The wound Is healing as nicely as can be expected The Sunshine committee of the First ward Relief Society gave t party Thursday afternoon of last week at the home of Mrs. Margaret Robinson. There were thirty-five Sunshine workers and Relief Society ladles present. A short program and games were enjoyed and each one present penned a little inscrip tion In Mrs. Robinson's memory book. Refreshments were served Mrs. Ben Buckwalter -and new baby son left the Lehl hospital Sunday Sun-day and after spending a few days In Lehl with Mrs. Buckwaltert mother will return to American Fork. Mrs. Leah Nielson left the 'Lehi hospital Sunday after spending ten days there following an operation for appendicitis. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Nelson and baby daughter returned Thursday last from Boise, Idaho, where they en-joyed en-joyed a visit of two weeks with relatives rela-tives of Mrs. Nelson and friends. Mrs. Ann Raymond spent last week-end in American Fork visiting with Miss Ltllie Shafter and other friends. Mrs. Raymond It will be remembered was employed in the American Fork Co-op here several years ago and now is located In Los Angeles where she is employed. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Comer of Boulder City, Nevada, who have been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Leo T. Shelley, parents of Mrs. Comer, left late last week with Mrs. Shelley for Ft. Hall, Idaho, where they are spending the week with Mr. and Mrs. Alan Shelley. Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Tolboe and two sons, who have spent the past two- years iir Indianapolis, Indiana; are spending a month here and In Provo with relatives. While In American Fork they are guests of Mrs. Tolboe's mother, Mrs. Mary J. Cunningham. ' ' Mrs. Foster Merrill of San Francisco, Francis-co, is here to spend the summer visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Coates. Last Saturday Louise and Betty Merrill of San Francisco were visitors at the Coates home. This week also Mr. and Mrs. Leo Morris and children, who have been at Glenns Ferry, Idaho, and who are moving to Kern-merer, Kern-merer, Wyoming, are visiting with Mrs. Morris' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Coates. A party celebrating the 14th birthday birth-day of Miss Virginia Shelley was given by her mother. Mrs. S. F. Shelley, Tuesday night It was given on the Shelley lawns, which were lighted and decorated for the occasion. Patriotic colors predominated predom-inated In the decorations In the luncheon scheme. A party which afforded great en joyment to all concerned was that given Monday night by the officers and members of the Y. M. and T. W. M. L A. stake boards and which was held at Mutual DeH. Baseball playing and horse shoe pitching were enjoyed early in the evening following which the dinner gong sounded and all were summoned to the dining hall where a delicious picnic supper was served. The tables were cleverly decorated In pine cones and twigs. Singing was directed di-rected by Mrs. West Hammond. A toast to the special guests of the evening, the ward superintendents and presidents, was given by A. B. Allen, and Mrs. C. A. Grant gave a toast to the board members. Fol lowing the supper all went to the recreation room where a stunt pro gram was given. Ogden and Salt Lake on Saturday and Sunday, Sun-day, June 30, and July 1. On Saturday afternoon the concert was given at the Tabernacle Square In Logan, for Cache County residents. resi-dents. The caravan left Logan on Sunday morning for Ogden. where a concert was scheduled for 10:30 a. m. in the public square. Immediately Immedi-ately following this they left for Salt Lake where they gave their final concert In the Liberty Park at 1p.m. These public concerts concluded the two week's .training under the direction of Professor A. Raymond Mbnson is home after being confined for the past three weeks In the Veterans Hospital In Salt Lake city. Mr. Monson underwent under-went a major operation upon enter ing the hospital three weeks ago and is now able to be about, feeling much better. AIR MAIL RATES DROP Postmaster J. E. Chad wick an-nounces an-nounces that effective July 2nd rates on air mall will be lower than here tofore. The rate now is 6 cents per ounce or fraction thereof, for the first ounce and each additional ounce. Eslie Bennett. The meeting was under the direction of Mrs. Susie W. Miller, unit president.
